Motion passed un-
animously. Mayor Hilton asked Councilmen Armstrong and Britschgi, members of
i
the committee, if they had anything further to add to the report. Councilman
Armstrong advised that the necessity of securing signatures to the petition to
form such a district in towns other than Redwood City made it advisable to
address a communication to councils in other cities asking them to sponsor
such a committee and suggest a person to serve on it. He believed that in
the unincorporated areas, the Mayor.might appoint a representative. Mayor
Hilton thanked the members of the committee for ,the work which had been done.
u
Councilman Armstrong suggested that the election which will be necessary to
form the hospital district be held 1n June so that plans can be carried out
E
j
as, soon as possible.
Y
I
Mr. Elmer K. Ross, chairman of the Recreation Commission, appeared before the
t
Council advising that he had addressed a letter to the City Manager asking
that consideration be given to selling some of the bonds voted upon at the
last election so that the Recreation program Could be begun. Stafford, a former
i
mayor of Redwood City, to several lots on Hopkins Streets which Mr. Stafford
>`
was donating to the city for recreational purposes. He advised that the
gift was contingent upon the property being put to use for recreational activ-
ities. City Man ager Blom advised that the Recreation Commission had asked
1
f, that a Quonset Hut be erected on Hawes Park, however, he was a little doubtful
' as to the desirability of this type of building. He advised that. he could
I
have a figure as to the cost of some other type of building by the neat meet-
ing of the Council.
= A Mr. Younger appeared on behalf of William A. Delaney requesting a permit for the
erection of a stable to house three or more horses within the city limits at
the corner of Valota and Woodside Roads. He advised it was not to be a com-
mercial enterprise. It was the opinion of City Attorney McCarthy that the
only restriction to granting the permit was subject to the inspection of the
health department. Councilman Fletcher moved, seconded by Councilman
Britschgi, that the permit be granted subject to the approval of the health
-
department. Under the question, Councilman Granger asked where the stable
was to be located on the property. Mr. Younger advised that it would be some
where near the center of the property-- about 100 feet from Woodside Road and
about 200 feet from Valota Road. City Attorney McCarthy asked that the
applicant be notified to make application to the health department for the
necessary inspection. Motion passed unanimously,
Communication was received from Alfred Morton, Director of Recreation, presenting
to each councilman an ashtray which was made by the instructor of pottery in
in appreciation of the Council's action in continuing the pottery classes.
Councilman Anderson suggested that the public be advised that these classes
are open to the public.
