I
I
4,
N•
224
as to the status of Lathrop Street. City Manager Blom said he would like
at this meeting to also give a report on a program for the balance of the
+
year in regard to street improvements. Motion passed unanimously.t
City Manager Blom reported on the proposed setback .change on James Avenues west
of El Camino Real. He stated he had made a survey from El Camino Real to
Myrtle Street to determine how many improved properties would be affected
by an additional ten foot setback on both sides of James Avenue. From E1
Camino Real to Duane Street on the opposite side of the high school grounds
there are five houses which are ten feet or less from the property line.
The Catholic parish house is less than ten feet from James Avenue property'
i
line and.several vacant lots on the northerly side of the street are fifty
feet in width which by changing the setback line would make them only forty
foot lots. James Avenue is now thirty-six feet wide which is wider than
most residential streets. He was of the opinion that it would be advisable
4
-to use part of the parking strips for the purpose of widening should it be
desirable to do so. Councilman Armstrong moved, seconded by Councilman
Fletcher, that the recommendation of .the City Manager be accepted; 1. e.,
that when and if it is determined to widen James Avenue that portions of
the parkin strips be used: Motion'
g passed unanimously.
City Manager Blom reported on proposed lighting of the Cross. He stated that the
present method of lighting the Cross is by condulets built on to the frame.
This method entails considerable expense in repairing each year. A pro-
{i
posed method, and which he would recommend be used, consists of panels to
I#
be prepared in the shop which would be pulled into place and could be re-
f
moved and returned to the shop after the period of lighting was over. The
estimated cost of building the panels is $200. Councilman Fletcher moved,
k
'
+s
seconded by Councilman Britschgi, that the City Manager's recommendation
3
be approved. Motion passed unanimously.
Councilman Armstrong moved, seconded by Councilman McNulty, filing of affidavit
of publication of ordinance rezoning Lots 2, 41 6 and 7. Block 1, Redwood
Highlands. Motion passed unanimously.
s
Councilman Fletcher moved, seconded by Councilman McNulty, adoption of ordinance
tlrezoning
Lots 2, 4, 6 and 7, Block 1, Redwood Highlands. On roll call,
ordinance was unanimously adopted with Councilman Anderson absent.
City Manager Blom reported on employees residing outside of city limits. He ad-
vised that Charles Randlett, Acting City Engineer, is being evicted from
his home which is outside of the city limits and is negotiating for the
purchase of a lot. He also has a prospect for a home within the limits.
It was City Manager Blom's suggestion that this matter be placed on the
-I
agenda for thirty days. He also reported that a number of servicemen who
{
rim
q
LL
have returned to their positions have been having difficulty in locating
a place to live within the city. It was his opinion that these men who
have been in the service should be given a reasonable period of time to
find a place to live. Councilman Granger moved that the servicemen be
given six months to find a home within the city. Mayor Hilton objected
to a specific time being given on the assumption that they would take six
i
