Fire Chief Ryan advised that the city pays <br />a unit price per lamp and there was no extra charge to the city. <br />Councilman Granger asked if there was any provision in the budget for trs.3:ning <br />program under the civil service system. City Manager Mead advised that <br />he had submitted an outline of the service training program to both the <br />fire and police departments and that all fireman had signified an inten- <br />tion to take the course and most of the policemen had expressed a willing- <br />ness to do so. -He stated that/ in the final budget he would recommend <br />sufficient money to cover the cost of the training courses. Councilman <br />Granger was of the opinion that participants in a promotional examination <br />should be given credit for taking the course, while Councilman Armstrong <br />believed that any person taking such a course would have an advantage <br />over those not doing so. <br />Councilman Granger asked the City Attorney if he had heard anything further <br />from Senator Parkman in regard to an allotment for Union Cemetery, City <br />Attorney McCarthy replied that he had and that Senator Parl�man had advised <br />that he believed there was a good chance of the city being alloted about <br />$3750 for the next biennium, <br />Councilman McNulty commented on the fine appearance of Union Cemetery on <br />Memorial Day and believed those responsible should be thanked. City <br />Manager Mead advised that the Park and Street Departments had been <br />responsible. <br />City Attorney McCarthy rendered an opinion on the terms of dance permits and <br />advised that he believed dance permits are revocable at any time the <br />Council desires. Councilman Anderson moved that in view of the City <br />Attorney Is opinion and to substantiate his earlier action in regard to <br />dance permits he moved that all existing dance permits now in force in <br />Redwood City in places where liquor is sold expire -on June 30, there - <br />'after new permits must be applied for, the owner to be notified. The <br />' motion was seconded by Councilman Granger and passeduunanimously. <br />_ Mayor Hilton asked if any provision had been made in the salary ordinance for <br />men on military leave. City Manager Mead advised that these men were <br />only being replaced during their leaves of absence. <br />Mayor Hilton asked the status of the Koemple case. City Attorney McCarthy <br />advised that he was waiting for the opposing attorney to answer his <br />request to have the trial moved to this city. <br />Councilman Armstrong moved the proposed ordinance setting up a recreation <br />commission be placed on the agenda for the next meeting. The motion <br />was seconded by Councilman Britschgi and passed unanimously. <br />
