Mayor Hilton stated that if .these <br />people were going to go on record protesting.ir#provements, he would go on <br />record protesting the city's ever spending any more money on Beech Street, <br />It was Councilman Briteehgils opinion that the property owners had not; <br />been properly informed as to how the street was to be improved. City <br />ATtorney McCarthy, however, stated that the post card notices strted the n <br />manner of improvements. There wO some discussion in regard to the adding <br />of new base and scarifying the present base. City.Manager Blom advised <br />f <br />that it would be necessary to scarify the present base in order to get new <br />Irma <br />materi d in and that it would be necessary to add base in order to bring <br />the street to conform with standard cross sections and in order to get a <br />y -three by <br />proper crown. A petition signed 'twent <br />g property owners was pre-�, <br />sented protesting the improvements.,. -Councilman Armstrong asked how much G <br />iii footage was represented in the.petition. City Manager Blom that there was <br />y <br />a total of 2740 feet to be improved and that the petition represented . <br />1785 feet against the improvement Councilman Britechgi moped, seconded by <br />Councilman Anderson, that the matter be dropped and the petition filed. 2i <br />Motion passed unanimously. <br />I ; <br />Communication was received from the Redwood City Traffic Study Committee in <br />which it was stated that the Committee agreed in part and disagreed in <br />part with the report submitted by,Mr..A. Glickman, traffic consultant en- <br />gaged by the Martin Transportation Company and recommended that since the �< <br />city is in thelproeess of obtaining a,man to prepare a master plan of the <br />city, and traffic flow will be one of the items worked out,`this matter �I <br />be, turned over to the master planner with the recommendation that it be <br />one of the first items studied. Councilman Armstrong moved, seconded by <br />Councilman Fletcher, that the recommendation of the Traffic Study Com- t <br />i <br />•mi.ttee be accepted and approved. Motion passed unanimouly.. <br />City Manager Blom advised that he and Building Inspector Duncan had made a <br />study of the building ordinance and it was their recommendation that no, <br />change be made. He said that the building ordinance does not permit the <br />construction or moving in of a frame building of any size into the first <br />fire district and that he and the assistant building inspector had not pro- <br />perly interpreted the ordinance when a request to move a frame building <br />into this district had come before the Council a short time ago. He also j <br />advised that the building in question was not to remain in this fire <br />district so that there would be no Violation of the ordinance. <br />Mr..Ludwig Werder asked in which fire district lower Broadway was located. <br />City Manager Blom advised that the area on each side of Broadway extension <br />from Maple Street to Chestnut islin fire district 2 and the balance in- <br />cluding the alley that is being vacated is in fire district 3. Mr. Werder <br />believed this district should be in the first fire zone. It was the gen- <br />' <br />eral consensus of the Council that this would be proper.
