He paid the city
$2000. It was his understanding that the county taxes were paid but he dis-
covered that there was due to the county $106 for taxes on Lots 2 & 5, Block
11, Sweeney Addition. The Council had authorized by resolution a quit claim
deed to the lots -in questions and the deed and resolution had been filed
and a receipt received from the title company, who had forwarded $2000 with
the condition that the city was to clear taxes and guarantee the title com—
pany against claims instituted by the quiet title action. It was the general consensus of the Council that it was
0
not responsible for the county taxes and City Attorney McCarthy was instruc-
ted to so advise Mr. Morrissey.
City Attorney McCarthy advised that in regard to Lots 23, 24, 25, Block 43, on
Valota Road, which the Council had instructed him to obtain a certificate
of redemption by paying copty taxes, County Tax Collector MacArthur advised
him that these lots had been advertised and bids received of $250 on each
of the above mentioned lots. Mr. MacArthur advised that he could not let
the city redeem the lots for -taxes in view of the fact that they have been
advertised and bids received. He said the city could redeem them for $250
each, however, he believed it would be to the city's advantage to allow the
lots to be sold and take its pro rata share of the sale price.
