Councilman Britschgi moved, seconded by Councilman Armstrong, <br />i <br />j that the eommunioation be referred to the Traffic Study Committee. Under <br />( the question, Councilman Granger asked if it would not be proper to authorize <br />, <br />the Traffic Study Committee to ask for the demonstration. Councilman. <br />Armstrong, however, believed that if the Traffic Committee felt that the <br />demonstration was worthwhile the communication should be`- deferred to the <br />Counoil. Motion passed unanimously. <br />Communication was received from Miss Ethel Murray, holder of some 1915 bonds <br />which she had offered to sell to the city at par value plus interest coupons <br />and which offer the Council had not accepted. She expressed the opinion <br />that she was entitled to such payment and,jurthe:e,-that she was entitled <br />to full interest <br />up to the time of payment. Councilman Armstrong moved, <br />seconded by Councilman McNulty; that the communication be ordered filed. <br />Connumieation was received from the Traffic Study Committee,=reoommending that <br />overhead traffic signals operating over the middle of the intersections of <br />E1 Camino Real with Brewster, Broadway, James and Jefferson be installed <br />i <br />due to the fact- that the traffic signals as now installed are wholly_ or <br />I+ <br />partially obscured by large vehicles and are a cause of accidents. City <br />j Manager Blom advised that he was in -favor of overhead signals but that the <br />I State Highway Department did not favor them. The Council generally approved <br />II <br />I! . <br />the overhead signals, also. Councilman Armstrong moved that the City <br />Manager be instructed to draft a letter to the.Highway Department outlining <br />I <br />the report of the Traffic Study Committee and expressing P P g the view of the <br />I Council to see if arrangements can be made to have overhead signals instal- <br />led as the above recommendation specified. The motion was seconded by <br />I <br />Councilman Britschgi and passed unanimously. <br />I <br />Councilman Britschgi asked who regulate the height of the signals and upon <br />I i , <br />being informed that the State Highway Department was responsible, stated <br />that the signal standards were of different heights in different cities <br />II along the Peninsula. City Manager Blom advised that he had discussed with <br />Colonel Skegge the possibility of getting a more modern type of signal. <br />�( Councilman Granger believed that one intersection should be designated <br />II; where the signal would-be kept on all night so that pedeetrians and vehicles <br />would always have a signal to cross El Camino Real. He moved, seconded by <br />' Councilman Armstrong, that the -City Manager be instructed to take steps to <br />�! see that one signal bei.leftoon all night, the intersection to be designated <br />Itl by the City Manager. Motion passed unanimously. <br />I <br />�I Communication was received from the Traffic Study Committee recommending that El <br />I Camino Real be lighted at the intersections of Brewster, Broadway, James, <br />Jefferson and Five Points. Councilman Granger moved the matter be referred <br />to the City Manager for study as to the cost of lighting these intersections, <br />seconded by Councilman McNulty. Under the question, Councilman Britschgi <br />
