Street Superintendent Winter advised that the city <br />paid for removing weeds in a street area.. City Attorney McCarthy advised <br />that he believed it was up to the Police Department to determine who put <br />rubbish in vacant lots or the city pay the cost of removing it. <br />Councilman Armstrong moved, seconded by Councilman Britschgi, adoption of reso- <br />lution requiring the abatement of a muisance in regard to weed abatement <br />proceedings. On roll call, resolution was unanimously adopted with Coun- <br />cilman Anderson absent. <br />RESOLUTION No. 301 <br />REQUIRING THE ABATEMENT OF A NUISANCE <br />WHEREAS, the Council of the City of Redwood City did, on the 18th day <br />of March, 1946, pass and adopt Resolution No. 290 Declaring Weeds A Nuisance <br />and Ordering Their Removal, in which resolution it was declared that noxious <br />or dangerous weeds were growing upon all the sidewalks, streets, avenues, <br />roads, boulevards and highways in said city, and upon all the lots and pro- <br />perty in said city, which weeds are of a kind which bear seeds of a wingy <br />or downy nature and will attain such large growth as to become a fire menace <br />when dry, and that said weeds constitute a public nuisance; and <br />WHEREAS, after the passage of said Resolution No. 290 Declaring Weeds <br />A Nuisance and Ordering Their Removal, the Superintendent of Streets of the <br />City of Redwood City duly and regularly caused to be posted notices of the <br />passage of said resolution in time, form, manner and number as required by <br />law; and <br />WHEREAS, at the time fixed in said notices and in said resolution when <br />objections to the removal of such weeds would be heard and given considera- <br />tion by the Council of the City of Redwood City, no objections of any kind <br />were made against the removal of said weeds, and said.Council now having <br />adquired jurisdiction thereof; <br />THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Redwood City <br />that the Superintendent of Streets of said city be and he is hereby ordered <br />and directed to abate,the nuisance existing as specified in said Resolution <br />No.290 Declaring Weeds A Nuisance and Ordering Their Removal, and as pro- <br />vided by law. <br />The above and foregoing resolution was passed and adopted by the Coun- <br />cil of the City of Redwood City at a regular meeting thereof held on the <br />15th day of April, 1946, by the following vote: <br />AYES and iii favor of the passage and adoption of the foregoing <br />resolution: <br />Councilmen: ARMSTRONG, BRITSCHGI, FLETCHER, GRANGER, McNULTY and <br />HILTON. <br />NOES, and against the passage and adoption of the foregoing resolution: <br />.' HILTON <br />Mayor of the City of Redwood City <br />City Manager Blom reported that he had contacted Mr. Carl Ward of the American <br />Trust Company in regard to improvements on Poplar Avenue. Mr. Ward advised <br />that all legal difficulties had been cleared and work would begin within the <br />next week on the houses and street work. An engineer has been engaged to <br />prepare the plans for the street work. <br />313 <br />
