DGDGE <br />Clerk of the City of Redwood City <br />MINUTES OF SPECIAL MEETING <br />REDWOOD CITY COUNCIL <br />MAY 14, 1946 <br />8:00 P.M. <br />On roll call, the following were present: Councilmen F. D.. Granger, G. W. McNulty <br />A. V. Swift, W. M. Werder, Mayor W. 19. Hilton, City Clerk R.. S. Dodge and <br />City Manager E. W. Blom. City Attorney P. A. McCarthy divided his time be- <br />tween Council Meeting and Planning Commission. Absent: Councilmen: C. 0. <br />Armstrong and C. A. Britschgi. <br />Mayor Hilton explained the purpose of the special meeting which was to consider <br />petition presented by the residents of the area from Kentfield, Woodside Road <br />Valota Road to Redwood Ave., objecting to the action of the Board of Super- <br />visors, County of San Mateo, to locate Juvenile Home in the vicinity. Several <br />residents of the area, led by Mr. E. P. Fletcher, appeared to speak against <br />the project. <br />City Attorney McCarthy gave tentative opinion to the effect that the County had <br />the right to condemn property within the City for County purposes. He also <br />called attention to the zoning ordinance which permitted the erection of <br />°municipal buildings" in a first residential area, under which category he <br />believed the Juvenile Horne would classify. <br />Councilmen Granger and McNulty were both of the opinion the petition should be <br />presented to the Planning Commission for their consideration and recommenda- <br />tion, as did Councilman Werder. <br />Councilman Granger moved, seconded by Councilman McNulty that the matter be re- <br />ferred to Planning Commission. Motion passed unanimously. <br />Request for permission to hold rummage sale May 15, 16 and 17th was granted to <br />Sisterhood Temple, Beth Jacob of Menlo Park on motion of Councilman Werder, <br />seconded by Councilman Sweft and unanimously carried. <br />City Manager Blom discussed the necessity of making certain alterations and re- <br />pairs in and around the City Hall, also expenditures approximating $400.00 <br />improving lighting of Hawes Park and dirt fill, suggesting that these expen- <br />ditures be paid for out of the Post -War Fund. After discussion, Councilman <br />Granger moved, seconded by Councilman Werder, that the City Hall item be <br />paid from unbudgeted Reserve and the Hewes Park items from Post -War Funds. <br />Motion carried unanimously: <br />City Manager submitted for discussion map covering proposed changes in grade of <br />Valota Road at Vera Avenue. No action was taken at this meeting. <br />City Clerk Dodge read letter of resignation from Planning Commission and Traffic <br />Study Committee submitted by Mr. B. J. Nordstrand.
