Winter. <br />Councilman Granger moved, seconded by Councilman Armstrong, that the minutes of a, <br />the regular meeting of May 6th and the special meeting of May 14th be ap- <br />proved as mailed. Motion passed unanimously. <br />Communication was received from W. H. Augustps, representing the United Spanish i <br />War Veterans, and addressed to City Manager Blom making application for per- <br />mit to be issued to the Foley & Burk Carnival Shows for the period June 17th <br />to June 22nd inclusive. Councilman Armstrong moved the application be <br />granted subject to proper payment of the fee before the show operates, sec- <br />onded by Councilman Granger. Under the question, Councilman Granger asked <br />that the concessions be checked so that the city received the revenue due it. <br />City Manager Blom advised that both the field tax collector and the police <br />department would check. Motion passed unanimously. <br />Communication was received from the State of California Veterans' Welfare Board <br />petitioning for the concellation of taxes against Lot 27 as designated on <br />the map entitled °Pellarin Court Redwood City, California". Councilman <br />:N <br />Granger vigorously opposed the cancelling of such taxes just because an indi- <br />vidual has a contract with the State Welfare Board. He believed the property <br />should show a lien against it for taxes even though the State Welfare Board <br />held the title. City Attorney McCarthy advised that when the title is in <br />the State the City has no alternative but to cancel the taxes as requested. <br />Councilman 14erder moved that the matter be tabled and the City Attorney con- - <br />tact other cities as to the method they follow, however, City Attorney <br />I McCarthy stated that the matter had been before the Council some time ago <br />and that it was his opinion that there was nothing the Council could do but <br />to grant the cancellation. Councilman Britschgi moved, seconded by Council- <br />i <br />man Werder, that the request for cnacellation of taxes against Lot 27 of <br />Pellarin Court, Redwood City be granted in line with the City Attorney's <br />ruling. The motion passed with Councilman Granger voting in the negative. <br />Communication was received from Mrs. E. P. Fletcher requesting permission to <br />withdraw petition against the Juvenile Home which had been presented to the - <br />
