HILTON
Mayor of the City of Redwood City
ATTEST:
RALPH S. DODGE
Clerk of the City of Redwood City
I hereby approve the foregoing resolution
this 20th day of May, 1946.
W. W. HILTON
Mrs•: Evelyn Carlson appeared before the Council and City Clerk Dodge administered
the oathe of office to her as a member of the Park and Recreation Commission.
Mayor Hilton congratulated Mrs. Carlson on her appointment and wished her
success during her term of office.
Mr. Elmer Ross appeared before the Council and presented deed from Daniel R. and
Isabella Stafford to property on Hopkins Streets to be used for recreation
purposes. He requested that a resolution be adopted by the Council before
acceptance of the deed and that the resolution be made a part of the minutes.
City Attorney McCarthy read resolution which he had prepared in the event
the Council desired to accept the deed and which outlined the purposes for
which the property would be used. Councilman Armstrong offered the resolu-
tion and moved its adoption, seconded by Councilman Britschgi. Under the
question, there was some discussion as to what constituted cultural activi-
ties. Mr. Ross stated that cultural activities cover almost anything in the
recreation line. In this district, however, the Recreation Commission
agreed that this property should be more of a park and a place where one can
find relaxation. There is to be no ball diamond or play area. There is to
be an activity building which he did not believe would allow dancing classes
to be operated because of the size, however, he expressed the opinion that
it would be up to the Council to decide that issue but that he did not be-
M lieve that if the Council•denied a permit for a dancing class that it would
jeopardize the deed. On roll call the resolution was unanimously adopted.
RES OLU T ION No. 324
ACCEPTING A DEED
RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Redwood City that the hereunto
annexed deed dated the 14th day of May, 1946, and made between DANIEL R.
STAFFORD and ISABELLA M.
