DODGE
Clerk of the City of Redwood City
I hereby approve the foregoing Resolution.
this 20th day of May, 1946.
W. W. HILTON
Mayor of the City of Redwood City
Councilman Granger moved, seconded by Councilman McNulty, that, a suitable
Ok resolution be drafted expressing the Council's appreciation to Mr. and
Mrs. Stafford for the gift of this property. Motion passed unanimously.
Mr. Ross, on behalf of Mr. and Mrs. Stafford and the Recreation Commissions,
thanked the Council for accepting the deed on behalf of the City.
Mr. Bert. Conroy appeared before the Council in regard to the merchants' parking
lot on lower Broadway. The lot had originally been rented by the merchants
for $1200 a year, however, this year the owner had increased the rental to
02100 and the merchants did not renew the lease. The property had now been
rented to an individual on a five year lease and he is endeavoring to triple
the rent to the users. Mr. Conroy asked that the Council take immediate
steps to obtain a parking area to protect the business men and the shoppers
in that area. Councilman Armstrong stated that the Traffic Study Committee
had submitted a recommendation to alleviate the parking problem but that
the Council had felt it would be wise to wait until the Master Plan was com-
pleted before going ahead with the recommendation. In answer to Councilman
Britschgils inquiry as to whether it was felt that the sum of $858,000, as
provided in the Post War Bond Issue, should all be spent on one lot, Coun-
oilman Armstrong expressed the opinion that he did not believe so but
thought that either an assessment district could be formed or meters in-
jIstalled in the lot. Councilman Armstrong moved, seconded by Councilman
Granger, that the Council meet with the Traffic Study Committee to study
this matter more thoroughly. Motion passed unanimously. It was decided to
call this meeting before the next regular meeting of the Council so that
F: some report could be had at that time.
' Mr. R. F. Martin appeared before the Council and advised that the Southern Pacific
Company had issued official orders to Martin Transporation Company to discon-
tinue the use of the Southern Pacific property around the Shell Oil Station.
Mr. Martin asked the Council to take into consideration the matter of estab-
lishing a bus stop for these busses. He desired that all busses stop at the
:,j IF Southern Pacific platform. There was considerable discussion in regard to
351
