Councilman Armstrong expressed the opinion that the matter
of designating space was deligated to the Chief of Police with the approval
of the Council and that the taxicab companies had no authority in the matter.
II Chief of Police Collins advised that the companies had requested space and
that two of them wanted the same space near the Greyhound Bus Station. It
was the general consensus that the Chief of Police should make a survey of
i
the space and bring in a report and recommendation. City Attorney McCarthy
advised that the ordinance requires the taxicab company to obtain the con-
sent of property owners for a proposed space, after which the Chief of
Police is to pass on the propriety of the number of spaces for any one com-
pany. In answer to Councilman Britschgils question as to who had juris-
diction over the streets, City Attorney McCarthy replied that the city had
but that it seemed reasonable to consult with property owners before plac-
ing taxicabs in front of their business. The general opinion of the Coun-
oil was that the matter had been delayed too long and it was the desire that
I
some definite action be taken at the next meeting.
