Kiang appeared before the Council in regard to a building at the corner
of Oak and El Camino Real. City Attorney' McCarthy explained to the Council
that at the direction of Building Inspector'Duncan he had prepared the
appropriate notices to insitute abatement proceedings against this building
and that the matter would be formally presented at the next meeting of the
0ouncil. Mr. Kiang advised that he had definite and concrete plans to build
a new building as soon as possible and asked the Council to grant him per-
mission to leave the building as it is until that time. He has the building
rented to a real estate agent on a month to month basis who will move in as
soon as the Council grants Mr. Kiang permission for him to do so. As said he
owned the lot next to the Nipa Hut to which he could move this building but
that he would prefer to keep it where it is temporarily until hecan build a
new building in which he plans to conduct a home furnishings and appliance
store. City Manager Mead explained that he had been instructed to not allow
the building to be occupied again and for that reason abatement proceedings
had been instituted. Mayor Hilton asked if Mr. Kiang had owned the building
when the instructions were given to the City Manager, to which Mr. Kiang re-
plied that he had not and that the person from whom he bought the building
had not inforied him of the instructions. It was the general consensus of
the Council that they would be willing to carry the matter on the agenda from
month to month. Councilman Anderson aeked'Mr. Kiang if he understood that he
acquired no rights about the building being left there and that the Council
could remove it atany time. Mr. Kiang signified that he understood that to
be the case. Councilman Anderson moved, seconded by Councilman Fletcher, that
the matter be carried on the agenda for the first meeting in June. Motion
passed with Councilman Armstrong voting in the negative.
City Attorney McCarthy reported that he had attended a meeting of the Peninsula
Division of' the LeaGe of California Cities in San Jose at which time he pre-
sented a resolution which the Councils recently passed requesting the Board of
Supervisors to consider coordinating the city and county planning, commissions
by having a representative of the county planning commission on the city com-
missions. He reported that the idea was favorably received by the League and
that he had been appointed chairman of a committee to work out a plan whereby
this could b e accomplished.
3.
