Hilton and Councilman Anderson <br />were both of the opinion that with this explanation the permit should be <br />renewed. Councilman Britschgi also concurred in this opinion, stating - <br />that Mr. Miles operates hie business in a good manner and that the cars <br />were moved off the lot at night. Councilman Anderson brought out the fact <br />that all permits expired on June 30 and that several of the lots had not <br />applied for renevials. He said he was going to vote against the motion and. <br />if the motion lost he was going to move to carry the matter on •the agenda, <br />his opinion being that he did not believe it was the intent of the ordi- <br />nance to put a man out of busines.s. Councilman Granger said he would <br />like to withdraw his second with Mr,.AAdersonIs thought in mind. Council- <br />man Armstrong said he would like to have -the motion voted on, Councilman <br />Granger withdrew his second., Councilman Armstrong asked under what author- <br />ity the lot would be operating for the next two weeks. Councilman Brits- <br />chgi moved that the permit be renewed in view of the conditions stated by <br />Mr. Miles. There was no second to the motion. Councilman Anderson moved <br />that the matter of the licensing of used car lots be placed on the agenda <br />and that the City Manager be instructed to notify each used car dealer that <br />the matter will come up at the next meeting of the council and that they <br />cannot operate after that meeting. ,The motion was seconded by Councilman <br />Granger. Councilman Britschgi askdd if the motion shouldn't be to extend <br />the permits. Councilman Anderson withdrew his motion and moved that all <br />used car permits be extended to the next meeting and that the -used car <br />dealers be notified that if no application is in at that time and not <br />granted at that meeting the dealer will be prevented from operating; a used <br />car lot by the Police Department. The r}otion was seconded by Councilman <br />Britschgi and passed with Councilman Armstrdng voting in the negative. <br />Communication was received from the Redwood City Planning Commission recommending <br />passage of final map of Redwood Terrace with the following restrictions: - <br />1. Parking areas for at least 100 cars be provided at the proposed shopping <br />center at Roosevelt and Fairview Avenues. <br />2. Paths be provided in all blocks over 900 feet long. <br />3. Utilities be placed underground, but if such installation should not <br />prove feasible economically, then the utilities shall he placed in the <br />rear of the lots. <br />4. Subdivider provide modern type electroliers. <br />5. Subdivider check with City Engineer as to adequacy of pavement proposed <br />on Roosevelt Avenue. <br />City Manager Mead explained that Redwood Terrace was part of the Car- <br />son -Monckton Ranch. Mr. W. G. Frost, engineer for the subdivision, and Mr. <br />-Ludwig Werder, appeared before the Council. A map of the territory was sub- <br />mitted and studied by the Council.
