M <br />jF <br />moved introduction of ordinance, seconded by Councilman Anderson. Motion <br />passed unanimously. <br />City Manager Mead advised he had received three bids on fire insurance from Pacific <br />National Fire Insurance Company, Hartford Fire Insurance Company, and London <br />Lancashire Insurance Company. The three bids were all the same - X505.96 pre- <br />mium for $52,000 coverage. The insurance is now held by the Pacific National <br />Fire Insurance Company. Councilman Granger moved that inasmuch as all three <br />'bids were the same the insurance be continued with the same company. Council- <br />man Anderson asked if the City had any service from them to which City ITanager <br />Mead replied that the city had had no reason to call on them for service. <br />Councilman Anderson seconded the motion which passed unanimously. <br />City Manager Mead reported"that he had several requests from the National Motor <br />Bearing Company, Mr. Chamberlain and Mr.. Oleson to have a neon sign placed <br />at the corner of Chestnut Street. He said the Chamber of Commerce also had <br />requested a neon light designating the Port. Councilman Anderson moved that <br />the city manager be -instructed to check into the cost of such signs, seconded by <br />Councilman McNulty. Under the question, Councilman Granger asked if it would be <br />in order to include these items in the budget. City Manager mead advised that <br />some provision would have to be made for them. The motion passed unanimously. <br />Councilman Anderson offered resolution and moved its adoption authorizing condemnation <br />of lands in fee' for municipal community center and recreational park. The motion <br />was seconded by Councilman McNulty and passed on roll call with Councilman Flet- <br />cher absent. <br />City Attorney McCarthy advised that he had attended the meeting before the Railroad <br />Commission in regard to R. F. 14artin+s application for extended bus service. <br />The hearing was complete and the matter was submitted to the Commission. <br />Councilman Granger Asked that the matter of drainage along Westgate, Brewster and <br />Hillview be placed on the agenda for the next meeting. <br />Councilman McNulty advised that the Garden City Products had material stored in front <br />of their pla ce of business. City Manager Mead said he would check into the <br />matter. <br />Mayor Hilton questioned the fact that 24 street lights on Broadway had been out and <br />asked if the city didntt pay for the powere whether they were on or not. City <br />manager Mead advised that the men in the fire department were busy burning grass <br />and were short handed. Chief Ryan was asked if he had anything to say and he <br />said it was due to a shortage of manpower, some of the department being on vaca- <br />tion, others busy burning grass, etc. He said if the city paid more money it <br />would be easier to get help. He also was of the opinion that the ele etrical <br />department should be contacted in regard to electroliers installed in new sub- <br />divisions, stating that it had not been contacted in regard to the slectroliers <br />514 <br />
