Jordan, Superintendent.of the Southern Pacific Railroad Company, requesting permission.to.._increase the speed of+ trains through Redwood City from .45 miles.-.per .hour. to. 60. miles per hour, In the interest of the war effor.t.. Councilman Granger asked the policy of other cities. City Manager Mead advised that there had been a meeting held with Mr. Jordan and two other representatives.of.the. railroad company and Mayor Hilton and him. at. which.. time Mr.* _Jordan. a.dvis.ed .that' all other Penin- sula cities had permitted .the 60 mile spsed,.limi.t.... It,, was the general concensus of the council,_ however, .tha.t the. trains traveled.at an excessive speed now and it would be unwise to ralse.the speed.limit. Councilman Armstrong, moved, seconded. by Councilman Brit s.chgi,...tha.t .the request of the Southern Pacific for an alteration.of.the.speed..limit.be denied. Motion passed unanimously: Communication was received from the Redwood City -Traffic Study Committee re- commending that (1) a stop sign.be placed.at the corner of Spring and Maple stopping traffic going.into Broadway;.(2). that a.strip be painted on Maple Street at Broadway to guide.eas_tbpund traffic! on Broadway into Maple; (3) that a stripe be painted .on'Spr.ing-Street at 'Broadway to guide eastbound traffic on Spring into Broadway. Councilman.Britschgi moved, seconded by Councilman Anderson,.tbat the recommendations of the Traffic Study Committee be concurred.,in.....Motion passed unanimously. Application for dance permit from Yvonne Schlichtmann was received far per- mission to conduct danceslvednesdays, July 18th,,.25th and August lst, until 12s00 midnight, fee having been.paid... Councilman Britschgi moved, seconded by Councilman Ander.son,.that permit.be.granted. Under the question, Councilman Armstrong asked .if ..the ;bermit..included the sale of j beer. Mayor Hilton expressed the opinion.that.the permit would be granted under the same basis as the permit.was.granted at the last meeting which included the sale, of beer. Motion -passed with Councilman I Armstrong voting in the negative. Application for dance permit was received from_Court.Madrone.No. 158, F. of A. for permission to conduct.benefit.dances. .July 21st,.28.th and August 14th until 12s00 midnight. Councilman McNulty moved, seconded by Councilman-- Britschgi, that permit be granted. Motion passed. with Councilman Arm- �I strong voting the the negative. I Application for restaurant license was received from Lavinia. Grevonis to con- duct restaurant at 135 Willow Street. No restaurant is now being con- duoted by the applicant and no liquor license is being.applied for. The license fee will be. paid when. the. permit, is. granted. No health inspec- tion has been made as yet..
