I! Councilman Armstrong stated that in goving over the claims to be passed at this
meeting he had noticed that some were marked "June" and "Julylt and assumed
r— that the ones marked Itiuly" were t o b e paid out of the 1945-46 budget. He
believed there were some charges in those claims that should be charged
against the old budget and asked.that when the bills are approved he would
like to have included in the motion that the following claims be charged
i
i against the 1944-45 budget; Claims No, 5688, 56910 5674, 57090 57108 5711,
j 5688, 56860 5678, 5677, 5697, 5696, 5694, and 5695.
Councilman Granger asked when the water department budget was to be presented.
City Manager Mead advised that it is not as yet prepared and that the books
-
are not closed yet. A meeting will have to be called before the last meet-
ing in August to discuss this budget.
Councilman Granger said there was a serious fire hazard at 339 Lowell Street.
The house has been vacant f or two or three years', and weeds have been allowed
El
to grow. .
Councilman Granger believed the street lights should be put back in their regular
status and that there should be included in the budget funds, to remove the
paint and clean the fixtures. Councilman Granger moved that there bb in -
eluded in the budget funds to remove paint and clean the street light fix-
tiires, seconded by Councilman Armstrong. Under the question, Councilman
Britschgi asked the Fire Chief if it would be possible to do the work at
this time. Chief Ryan replied that it would be possible to do so. Mayor
Hilton asked if the work ,would be charged against civilian defense, however,
the general consensus of the council was that this would be an appropriate
charge against the eletric department. The motion passed unanimously.
Councilman Granger advised that some of the merchants and cit izans, are complaining
about the number of dogs in the business district and he believed some steps
shoAldbbe taken to keep the business district clear of dogs. City Manager
Mead advised that the ordinance does not require thaty"lieensed dogs be kept
on a leash from sunrise to sundown, but, only from sundown to sunrise. City
Attorney McCarthy referred to the ordinance and concurred in this opinion.
Councilman Granger suggested that the proper authorities be instructed to
instruct the poundman to make an effort to keep the dogs out of the business
area.
Councilman Granger questioned the fact that a lot on Jefferson at the corner of
Grand Street had been turned around and the houses had been built to face
on Grand Street. He asked if this matter had ever come before the Council.
Building Inspector Duncan advised that this lot had been subdivided; there
formerly had been four lots on Jefferson which faced the creek and that they
had been converted into three lots to face on Grand.
