He said it would <br />! <br />work a hardship on him. Councilman Anderson moved, seconded by Councilman <br />Britschgi, that'the mayor call an informal meeting of the Council and the <br />1 <br />i <br />4 <br />city employees affected at -the earliest possible convenience for the pur- <br />pose of discussing the matter brought up by Mr. Morton by reason of pre- <br />1 <br />sent housing conditions. Motion passed unanimously. <br />i <br />Petition was received bigned by fifty property owners and tenants petitioning <br />that: 1. Hamilton Street be opened and extended to the present Penn-. <br />f <br />j Sylvania Avenue. <br />2. That 'theatre Street be opened and extended to the present <br />1 <br />Pennsylvania Avenue. <br />3. Hamilton Street be opened and extended to'the present Bayshore <br />Highway. <br />1 4. That these street openings and extensions be commenced at once <br />j and continued without delay until completed. <br />! <br />Councilman Granger moved the matter be referred to the Planning Com- <br />rAission for study and that further consideration be given to the point <br />of the setback line of the alley. The motion was seconded by Council- <br />man Britschgi and passed unanimously. <br />i <br />Mrs. Paul Gobbel appeared before the Council requesting that sidewalks be <br />installed on Jefferson Avenue to St.. Francis IMy, a matter of five <br />blocks; Councilman Anderson moved the matter be referred to the City <br />Engineer's office for a report at the next meeting of the Council with <br />complete enoughtdetails so that the Cbuncil can take steps to plscing <br />sidewalks in that area. The motion was seconded by Councilman Fletcher <br />j <br />and passed unanimously. <br />Mr. W. A. Van Buren requested permission for the erection of two signs at <br />!� <br />i <br />his used car lot. Councilman Fletcher moved the permit be granted if <br />I <br />It meets with the rquirements of the ordinance, seconded by Councilman <br />Britschgi. Councilman Armstrong asked the Building Inspector if the <br />signs met the ordinances to which he replied that they did. The motion <br />j� passed unanimously. <br />1 <br />! <br />City Clerk Dodge reported that the city employees had elected Street Superin- <br />tendeant Lisle Winter to represent them on the committee to study the <br />} ClItl Service system. He read letters from the Fire and Police De- <br />partmenta requesting representation on this committee. Mr. Winter and <br />f Mr. Morton appeared before the Council stating they believed each de- <br />partment should have a representative on the committee. Councilman <br />Anderson belsieved that inasmuch as the request came from the employees <br />he moved that another election?be held and an employee elected from <br />i <br />each department. City Clerk Dodge advised that each department had <br />selected its own candidate for the election and had asked that in the <br />M <br />
