84 <br />placed on the agenda for next meeting. <br />On motion of Councilman Granger, seconded by Councilman McNulty and unani- M <br />mously passed, the Clerk was instructed to ascertain the cost of a. <br />�I <br />portrait of President Truman to be -r-laced in the Council Chambers. <br />City Clerk Dodge reported on offer of $500.00 by a prospective purchaser <br />to County Tax Collector for rectangular piece of property on Chestnut <br />Street, adjoining the Ross Chamberlain property, on which the City holds <br />tax deed. Councilman Anderson moved that the property be sold at the <br />price stipulated; however, he withdrew his motion after further dis- <br />cussion and moved that the matter be referred to Planning Commission <br />as there was a possibility of Hilton Street being extended; after a <br />I <br />second by Councilman Britschgi, Councilman Granger suggested that the <br />Planning Commission check to see.whether or not there ever was a con- <br />tinuation of Hilton Street. Motion passed unanimously. <br />Councilman Armstrong referred to the matter of safeguarding the Jefferson <br />Avenue railroad crossing. City Attorney McCarthy stated that he and <br />Mr. Mead had attended a meeting of the Railroad Commission about two <br />months ago, at which it was stated by the Southern Pacific representa- <br />epresenta-tive-that <br />tive -tftatit would nor., be possible to install a manually controlled <br />watchman's station at Main and Maple Streets. On motion of Councilman <br />Armstrong, seconded by Councilman McNulty, the City Clerk was instructed <br />to write to J.J. Jordan of the Southern Pacific Company, requesting <br />information as to when construction will begin, and voicing the City <br />lwlll <br />Council's desire to have it done immediately. <br />Claims No, 5787 to 5829 inclusive, amounting to $17,737.23, were approved and <br />ordered paid on motion of Councilman McNulty, seconded by Councilman <br />Armstrong. Motion passed unanimously. <br />Councilman Granger offered resolution adjourning meeting in memory of Sgt. <br />Julian Ducray; Councilman Anderson offered resolution memorizli2ing <br />PFC Joseph Gonzales; and Councilman Armstrong offered resolution hon- <br />(`1 <br />oring T/5 Robert Carpenter. notions offerinp, above resolutions were <br />seconded and carried unanimously on ro11call, Councilman -Fletcher <br />voted absent. <br />RESOLUTION <br />r - <br />RESOLVED that this meeting of the City Council of the City of <br />Redwood City adjourn in memory of Sergeant Julian Ducray, a resident E <br />of this city who entered into the service of his country, who made the <br />supreme sacrifices in the defense thereof and in the preservation of <br />our national principles. <br />Be it further resolved that the Clerk of the Council forward <br />to the family of the late Sgt. Ducray a cony of the resolution and that <br />the same be recorded in the official minutes of the meeting of the <br />City Council. <br />Passed and adopted by the Council of the City of Redwood City <br />at a regular meeting thereof held on the 20th day of August, 1945, by <br />the following vote: <br />Ayes and in favor of the massage and adoption of the fore- <br />going resolution: <br />Councilmen: H.F. Anderson, O.C. Armstrong, C.A. Britschgi, <br />F.D. Granger, G.w. McNulty and W.W. Hilton. <br />
