Ordered filed. <br />Communication was received from Sunt, of Schools Andrew Spinas requesting <br />SII <br />ap-oointment of a police officer to work with the Junior traffic natrol. " <br />Chief Collins stated that officer had already been assigned to this <br />duty, and Mayor Hilton instructed City Clerk to communicate this f^.ct <br />to Mr. Spinas. <br />Application was received from American Legion Post #105, to place a. bench at <br />the Dibble Hospital loading zone opposite the Greyhound Bus Lines Station. <br />Councilman Granger moved, seconded by Councilman Fletcher, that request <br />be granted, providing there is no objection_ on the part of the Redwood <br />Ice Company whose consent should be secured before proceeding further, <br />and in the event of its -consent, bench be built under direction of the <br />City Building Inspector. Motion passed. <br />Application was received from Mr. Jacobsen of the Peninsula. Tuberous Begonia <br />Gardens to erect a hot house on his property on Woodside Road. Council- <br />man Armstrong moved, seconded by Councilman McNulty that City Clerk <br />I <br />advise Mr. Jacobsen that the Council is without authority to grant permit <br />i <br />for a. structure for industrial purposes in second residential district. <br />Motion passed unanimously. <br />Report was received from Fire Chief Ryan on cost of cleaning dimout globes and <br />jrelam-ping amounting to $614,04, approximately $100 under estimated cost. <br />Report was made by City Clerk Dodge that he had been unable to secure infor- <br />mation as yet, regarding cost of framed photograph of President Truman, <br />i to replace that of late President Roosevelt in Council Chambers, but on <br />checking the records, found that photograph of the late President, had <br />cost $12.88 including tax. On motion of Councilman Britschgi, seconded <br />by Councilman Armstrong, this mattci was carried on the agenda for next <br />is meeting. Motion unanimously passed. <br />�f Application was received from Ross H. Chamberlain. Ltd. to erect sign on <br />(I Bayshore Highway. Councilman Britschgi moved, seconded by Councilman ' <br />Armstrong, that permit be denied on ground that similar applications <br />from other sub -dividers would h-ive to be approved, resulting in excessive <br />I <br />number of advertising signs throughout the city, Mr. McDougall, re -ore - <br />senting Ross H. Chamberlain, Ltd., explained that his company had been <br />working for several months to create an industrial area in Redwood City, <br />employing two and sometimes three men exclusively on engineering work <br />involved, and that the Company had a payroll of 150 men at present work- <br />ing in this area. Because of these facts, he felt the Company should be <br />I" <br />permitted to erect a. sign., He also offered the suggestion that a sign <br />I <br />calling attention to Redwood City Port, -placed on the Bayshore Highway j <br />by the city, advertising the city's deep water facilities, would be of <br />! great advertising value. After some discussion, on roll call, motion to <br />deny permit was lost, Councilman Anderson, Fletcher, Granger and Hilton <br />voting in the negative. <br />
