F <br />Councilman Anderson moved, seconded by Councilman Fletcher, that hermit be <br />granted to erect a directional sign, with the wording "REDWOOD CITY" <br />INDUSTRIAL DISTRICT" to be the most prominent part of sign and to be placed <br />in the upper portion of it; that permit be granted for period of one year; <br />that construction of sign be approved by the City Building Inspector in <br />accordance with zoning ordinance #272, and that city license fee be paid. <br />On roll call, motion passed, Councilman Armstrong and Britschgi voting <br />"No." In reply to Councilman Armstrong's invuiry regarding fee for <br />erection of sign, City Attorney McCarthy stated it was his opinion that <br />fee would not be required for single sign, but requested time to look into <br />the matter. <br />Councilman Granger moved, seconded by Councilman Anderson, and unanimously <br />passed that suggestion regarding sign advertising Redwood City Port, be <br />referred to Port Commission for consideration and recommendation. <br />Mr. R.H. Ratliff of the Peninsula Ambulance Service requested that Redwood City <br />subsidize his ambulance service for the coming year, stating it would be <br />impossible to continue emergency service to the city without this support. <br />I <br />He explained procedure followed in the past whereby he was allowed $11.00 <br />for night calls and .?8.50 for day, time calls where patients were brought <br />to the Community Hospital at request of R.C. Police Department. When <br />Community Hospital established its own service July 1st, 1945, he was <br />1 <br />r_.l barred from picking up -people outside the city limits. Between July. lst <br />and present date,he has a total of $183,00 in claims which under previous <br />errangement would h,pve been paid by Community Hospital. When he submitted <br />,f <br />bill, he was informed by Mr. Wentz in Dr. Gans' office that bill was re— <br />turned bec'use it was not authorized by the Department of Health and <br />Welfare. Mr. Ratliff stated that under agreement with former City Manager <br />Mead, two ambulances with four attendants were ready at all times 24 hours <br />a day. He said further that while subsidy of Redwood City for year ending <br />June 30, 1945, did not meet expenses, he offered to maintain the service <br />until October let if desired, but if Council disapproved subsidy for <br />j coming year, the service would have to be withdrawn. <br />Mayor Hilton appointed Councilmen Fletcher, Anderson and McNultu to confer <br />with Dr. Gans and report on the ambulance situation at next meeting, <br />• <br />j} Councilman Anderson left the meeting. <br />Communication was received from League of California Cities announcing an all <br />day meetin; of Polo Alto September 5th. <br />1 <br />Street Superintendent Lisle winter reported on survey of city streets where <br />temporary repair of street and sidewalk had been made, stating that <br />I <br />between 20 and 25 parcels could be repaired where sidewalks were involved. <br />j Contact was made with local cement men, and prices of 35 cents a sounre <br />} <br />foot approximately for side walks and 40 cents a square foot for street <br />work were quoted. city equipment and some labor being furnished. Mr. <br />Winter referred to shortage of help, three men recently leaving his <br />�✓ department. <br />l <br />
