C <br />1 <br />report regarding increase in water rates to Redwood City users. <br />Councilman Grrnger recommended that before a. new city manager is engaged, con- <br />sideration be given to presenting to the voters at next election, an amend- <br />ment to Section 32 of Charter, deleting from fourth paragraph of Section 32, <br />Lines 8 and 9, the words "or order of the city manager," thereby placing <br />the City Clerk under order of Council alone. <br />Councilman Armstrong pointed out other ambiguities in wording of section con- <br />cerning City Auditor, and Councilman Britschgi recommended appointment <br />of committee to study charter and offer recommendations for bringing it <br />up to date. Councilman Granger moved, seconded by Councilman McNulty, and <br />carried, that it be placed on agenda for next meeting. <br />Attention was called to lack of sanitary facilities at S.P. Flagmen houses by <br />Councilman Granger, who moved, seconded by Councilman Armstrong and carried, <br />that matter be referred to Health Department by City Clerk, with request <br />to report at next meeting. <br />Councilman McNulty moved, seconded by Councilman Granger, and carried, that <br />Redwood City Bus Lines be requested to arrange bus schedules so that buses <br />start 30 seconds apart to avoid congestion caused by two buses stopping <br />simultaneously at El Camino Real and Broadway. <br />Councilman Armstrong requested that consideration be given to repealing <br />ordinances #457, 471, 478, 479 and 480, dealing with civilian defense, <br />blackout, etc. <br />Chief Ryan reported he had received request for return of civilian defense <br />equipment to federal government by September 18th, if city did not care to <br />to purchase any or all of it. Councilman Britschgi moved, seconded by <br />Councilman Granger and carried, that Chief Ryan collect and return equip- <br />ment to federal government. <br />Councilman Granger moved, seconded by Councilman Britschgi and carried, that <br />painting bench used by bus passengers at E1 Camino Real and Broadway be <br />referred to city Paint Department. <br />Mayor Hilton at request of Mr. Albert Morgan, Jr., Chairman, Planning Com- <br />mission, conveyed invitation to Council members to attend dinner given by <br />Commission and attended by Mr. Tilton, on September 14th, and requested <br />thoee plcnning to attend to notify City Clerk Dodge, who will in turn <br />inform Mr. Morgan. <br />Claims No. 5836 to 5885 inclusive amounting to $6,692.82 were approved and <br />ordered paid on motion of Councilman McNulty, seconded,by Councilman <br />Granger end carried, Councilman Anderson noted absent. <br />Councilm,-n Granger <br />suggested that City Clerk <br />be instructed <br />to notify <br />U.S.E.S. <br />thMt the City <br />has some positions open. <br />There being no <br />objection, <br />Mayor <br />Hilton instructed City Clerk to communicate this informati-n to the U.a.E.S. <br />Adjournment. <br />R.
