Mr. Brophy a®ked <br />authority to adjust the as@essed value on improvements to $2,500 on the current tax <br />roll. Councilman Armstrong asked if the Council had the authority to lower the <br />assessment at this time: Qity Attorney McCarthy advised that the property owner's <br />right to protest ceases after the meeting of the Board of Equalization in August,, <br />however, he believed that the Council might have the right to lower the assesement <br />if, in its opinion, the assessment was unfair. He stated, however, that he was un- <br />able to give a definite answer without studying the matter. Councilman Werder moved <br />seconded by Councilman Granger, that the matter be referred to the City Attorney for <br />a report at -the next meeting as to whether the Council can correct an assessment at <br />this time. Motion passed unanimously. <br />Communication was received from City Assessor John J. Brophy requesting authority to can - <br />eel assessment made in error on improvements on Arb. Blk. 250, Lot 14. Improvements <br />were assessed on the wrong parcel of property in the amount of $250.00, making <br />I� necessary a correction of 43.b4. The assessment is #5049 on the current roll. Coun- <br />oilman Armstrong moved, seconded by Councilman Britschgi, that the'request of the <br />I <br />City Assessor be granted. Motion passed unanimously. <br />Communication was received from City Assessor -John J. Brophy requesting authority to pay <br />assessment No. 41 covering Lot 1, Block 1, Eastern Addition from the Real Estate <br />Fund to the County of San Mateo, covering assessment for street improvements and <br />sanitary sewers under County Resolution of Intention #2302. City Manager Blom ex- <br />plained that the property covered by the assessment is now occupied by the Animal <br />Shelter and that the Council had more or less committed itself to sell the property <br />to the Elementary School District. He advised that the assessment could either be <br />paid or let go to bond and that the cost of the assessment could be added to the <br />property when it was disposed of. Councilman,Britschgi moved, seconded by Councilman McNulty, that the <br />report be placed on the agenda for the next meeting to allow time for study. Motion <br />passed unanimously. <br />Mrs. Nora L. Auerbach appeared before the Council requesting the assurance that she would <br />w <br />be allowed to conduct a chiropodist's office on Blandford Street in the event she built <br />a home there. City Attorney McCarthy advised that Mrs. Auerbach had contacted him and <br />that she was advised that he was not sure whether her business came under the head- <br />ing of a physician. Some of the Council was opposed to granting a permit at this <br />address but it was believed that the City Attorney should study the matter further <br />in order to determine whether a chiropodist was considered a physician.
