The plan provided for change in bus stops on Winklebleck
Street and for the addition of bus loading'zones on the Southern Pacific platform.
Parking meters are to be added on the east side of California; the driveway into
the parking lot on California Street will remain unchanged; Winklebleck Street will
become a one way street from California to El Camino Real, the traffic flowing
from east to west; left hand turn will be permitted from the Southern Pacific Sta-
tion to Broadway. It was also recommended that one hour parking meters be installed
on the southwest side of Perry Street and to enforce the no parking ordinance in
effect on the northeast side of Perry Street. Mr. R. F. Martin appeared and*stated
it would be necessary for him to have eight parking spaces on Winklebleck Street
during the rush commuter hours in the morning and evening. It was decided that
these spaces could be reserved for the bus company during the rush hours and allow
parking there during the day in metered spaces. The revised plan as submitted was
generally approved by the Council and Councilman Armstrong offered resolution
instructing the proper administrative officials to erect the proper traffic signs
and markings to put the Traffic and Safety Commission's plan into effect and moved
its adoption, seconded by Councilman Werder. On roll call, resolution was unani-
mously adopted. City Manager Blom advised that the Police Chief had suggested a
stop sign be placed on the station driveway leading to Broadway to avoid a hazard
with pedestrians.
R E S 0 L U T ION No. 441
REGULATION OF TRAFFIC ON JAMES AVENUE, WINKLEBLECK AND CALIFORNIA STREETS
AND IN THE DRIVEWAY FROM BROADWAY TO THE SOUTHERN PACIFIC DEPOT, AND ES_
TABLISHING PARKING SPACES FOR MARTIN BUS TRANSPORTATION COMPANY
RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Redwood City that, in accordance with
the provisions of Ordinance No..458, as amended, and Ordinance No. 499 of this City, !
the recommendations of the Traffic Safety Commission in its report of March 1947,
to this Council, be and the same is hereby ratified and approved, and that hence-
forth traffic by vehicles on the following named streets and on the driveway between
Broadway and the Southern Pacific Depot shall be as follows:
On James Avenue between El Camino Real and the Southern Pacific Depot, in
both directions;
On Winklebleck Street between E1 Camino Real and California Street, in a
westerly direction only; U
On Winklebleck Street between California Street and the Southern Pacific
Depot, in both directions;
On California Street between Broadway and James Avenue, in a southerly
direction only;
On the driveway between Broadway and the Southern Pacific Depot, in a
northwesterly direction only;
FURTHER RESOLVED that bus loading spaces be and they are hereby reserved for
1m
