15 "Peninsula Division of League of California Cities notice of meeting was received. <br />r <br />Meeting to be held Thursday, April 17th at Bondy's in Belmont. The Clerk noted <br />those signifying their intention of being present. <br />Communication from American Red Cross was received expressing appreciation for donation <br />of $400 received for the 1947 campaign. •Communication was ordered filed. <br />Communications were received from State Senator Harry S. Parkman and Assemblyman <br />Richard Dolwig acknowledging receipt of copy of resolution of the Council endors- <br />Ing the Child Care Centers and promising consideration of the Bill when it is <br />presented to the State Legislature. Communications were ordered filed. <br />Communication from Wayne R. Millington was received submitting application of Roy <br />Parks, 1329 Janes Avenue, for permission to install "Claw Machines". City Mana- <br />ger Blom reported that he had discussed this machine with Police Chief O'Brien of <br />San Mateo where such machines.are in operation. He explained the mechanics of <br />the machines and advised that they would be installed in public places. San <br />Mateo charges a fee of $100 a year as a license to install the device. There <br />was some doubt on the part of the Council as to the advisability of allowing <br />_such installations and Councilman Granger moved, seconded by Councilman Britschgi, <br />that the application be laid over until some decision is retched in regard to <br />other amusement machines. •Motion passed unanimously. <br />City Attorney McCarthy entered the meeting. <br />Petition was received from property,owners on Hudson Street recuesting that water service <br />be connected to the newly installed 6" main rather than.to the present 2-1/2" <br />main to allow greater pressure during the summer months. The matter was re- <br />ferred to the City Manager for appropriate action. <br />Petition was received from same property owners on Hudson Street requesting a street <br />light at the corner of Oak and Hudson Streets. This petition was also referred <br />to the City Manager. <br />Communication was received from the Board of Trustees of the Citizens' Committee for <br />old age pension requesting the Council to adopt a resolution endorsing the Assembly <br />Bill to increase the Old Age Pension and attaching a copy of a resolution adopted <br />by the City Council of the City of Los Angeles. Communication was ordered.filed <br />on motion of Councilman Armstrong, seconded by Councilman Werder. Motion passed <br />unanimously. <br />Communication was received from the California Paving Company requesting an extension of <br />time on their contract for the paving of Hudson Street project of ninety days <br />from Larch el, 1947, and also requesting an alternate changing of their bid of <br />.085 per square foot to $6.90 per ton for asphaltic concrete. It was explained <br />by them that the change was necessary because of the variation in the thickness <br />of material to bring the existing pavement and the new pavement to a uniform <br />grade. ,City Manager Blom recommended that the ninety day extension be granted <br />from March 31, explaining that the subsoil is quite wet and that he would like to <br />be.sure that it is dry before the pavement is laid. He stated that he had,not <br />had an opportunity to discuss the second request with the City Engineer and that <br />he would like that metier referred to the Engineering Department. Councilman <br />Werder.moved, seconded by Councilman Armstrong, that the request for an extension <br />of time of 90 days from Uarch 31, 1947, be granted the California Paving Company <br />on the Hudson Street project and that the second request for change in bid be <br />4 <br />0 <br />
