1
Engineering Department returned with computations of bids on paving of California 6
Square. The bid of Peter Sorensen was the low bid although there was an error in
one extension which increased the total amount of the bid $37.50, or to $9392.45. It,
was the recommendation of the City Manager that Mr. Sorensen's Bid be -accepted. Coun
oilman Granger moved, seconded by Councilman McNulty, that the bid for improvements
of California Square be awarded to Peter Sorensen in the amount of $9392.45 and that
bidders' check and bonds be released to the unsuccessful bidders. Motion passed
unanimously. In answer to an inquiry as to the completion date of the work, City
Manager Blom advised that the contract calls for completion by July 3, 1947.
City Manager Blom advised that there was a petition presented to annex 107 acres of indus-
trial land below the National Motor Bearing Company. The Engineering Department had
checked and discovered a few discrepancies in the description and the corrections
had not as yet been presented in a new description. The city owns two acres in the
area and it is proposed that the city put these -two acres up for sale allowing the
subdivider to bid and include them in the area to be annexed. This property is the
same as referred to in the Planning Commission recommendation earlier in the meeting
and for which the tenantive map was not presented. City Attorney McCarthy advised
that in regard to the two acres owned by the -city, the procedure as suggested by
the City Manager would be legal and would eliminate prolonged legal procedure for
Its annexation. It was -the general consensus that the two city owned acres should
be included in the proceedings. Councilman Granger offered resolution of intention
to annex property known as the Redwood City Industrial Tract and moved its_adoption,
seconded by Councilman McNulty. On roll call, resolution was unanimously adopted.
RESOLUTION No. 459
GIVING NOTICE OF PROPOSED ANNEXATION OF TERRITORY HEREINAFMER DESCRIBED TO
THE CITY OF REDWOOD CITY TO BE KNOWN AS INDUSTRIAL TRACT.
WHEREAS, pursuant to the provisions of that certain Act of,the Legislature of
the State of California, entitled "An act to provide of the alteration of the
boundaries of incorporated towns and cities by the annexation of uninhabited terri-
tory in and as a part of such municipality, and for the districting, government
and municipal control of such annexed territory", approved May 29, 1939 (Stats. of
1939s Chapter 297, page 1567), there was, on the 7th day of April 1947, filed with
the'Council of the City of Redwood City; a petition, in writing, requesting that
the uninhabited territory hereinafter described be annexed to, incorporated and
included in and made a part of said City of Redwood City; and
WHEREAS the exterior boundaries of said territory are described in said peti-
tion, and said territory is contiguous to the limits and boundary of said City of
Redwood City, and are particularly described in Exhibit "A" hereto attached and
made a part hereof; and
WHEREAS the Council of the City of Redwood City does hereby determine and
declare that said petition is signed by the owners of not less than one-fourth
(1/4) of the area of the land described in said petition, and the owners of said
land represent not less than one-fourth (1/4) of the assessed value of such terri-
tory as described in said petition, according to the last preceding equalized
assessment roll of the County of San Mateo, said County being the County in which
said territory hereinbefore described is situated;
NOW, THEREFORE, the Council of the City of Redwood City does by thie.Resolu-
tion give notice of such proposed annexation and does further fix Monday, the 5th
day of May, 1947, at the hour of 9 o'clock p.m., at the Council Chambers inrthe
City Hall in said City of Redwood City as the day, hour and place when and where
any person owning real property within said territory so proposed to be annexed
1 and.having any objection to the proposed annexation, may appear before said City
Council and show cause why said territory should not be so annexed.
IT IS FURTHER ORDERED that the City Clerk of the City of Redwood City shall
cause a copy of this resolution to be published at least once a week for two suc-
cessive weeks prior to the date fixed for said hearing; and
IT IS FURTHER ORDERED that at any time not later than the hour set for hear-
ing objections to the proposed annexation, any owner of property within the terri-
tory proposed to be annexed may file written protest against the proposed annexa-
tion.
