177
COMMUNICATION WAS RECEIVED FROM CONGRESSMAN RICHARD J. DOLWIG acknowledging receipt
of letter and resolution endorsing recreation bills. Communication was ordered filed.
COMMUNICATION WAS RECEIVED FROM THE SEQUOIA CAB COMPANY requesting an extension of 180
days to fill out their seven permits. They are now operating five taxicabs and
have been advised by automobile concerns that it will be some time before they can
obtain additional cars. Councilman Werder moved, seconded by Councilman Britschgi,
that an extension of 180 days as requested be granted the Sequoia Cab Company to
fill out their seven permits. Motion passed unanimously.
COMMUNICATION WAS RECEIVED FROM THE WELTNER MOTOR COMPANY requesting permission to move
their used car lot from 'its present location to 931 El Camino Real, just south of
their new car sales agency. The present used car lot would be used for the con-
venience of their customers to park and also to park cars after servicing. Mr.
Weltner appeared and stated that the present car lot would not be used as a storage
for used cars. Councilman Granger asked if there would be any care on the lots with
"For Sale" signs on them. He was advised by Mr. Weltner that there would be none.
There was some discussion on the part of the Council as to whether the lot would
become an eyesore and it was generally agreed that if the lot were used as stated
by Mr. Weltner there would be no objection. Councilman Britschgi moved, seconded
by Councilman Granger, that the permit be granted to move the present used car lot
to 931 E1 Camino Real provided that all provisions of• the -ordinance are adhered to.
Councilman Granger stated his second was based on the understanding that the permit
for the used car lot is being transferred to the new location; that there would be
•only one such lot.. This was the understanding of the Council. Motion passed
unanimously.
Mr. D. S. FABBRO appeared before the Council presenting a floor plan of one of the
two apartments which he wishes to build on Arguello Street. Councilman Granger asked
if the apartments would consist of fireproof material. Mr. Fabbro advised that he
was going to use sheet rock which is fire resisting but not fireproof. It was the
opinion of Mayor Hilton that the plans should be submitted to the Building Inspector
and Fire Inspector before being presented to the C©uncil and the minutes of the-
. .
last meeting were•referred to. The action of the Council at that time was that the
plans were to be submitted to the Building Inspector and Fire Inspector and, if
approved, submitted again to the Council. Councilman Werder was of the opinion•that
if there would be no greater fire hazard with the apartments than now exists, the
permit should be granted. Mr. Fabbro advised he would remove the building which is
on the side of the building to be improved as soon as it is possible to do so and re-
quested the cooperation of the Council in obtaining condemnation of it. It was the
opinion of the Council in general that the Building Inspector and Fire Inspector
should review the plans before action was taken by the Council. Councilman Swift
was of the opinion that if the plans were approved, a permit could be issued but he
believed that the building to be removed should be torn down before the apartments
are built. Councilman Werder moved that the Council approve the plans as presented
by Mr. Fabbro. There was no second to this motion. Mr. Fabbro, in answer to
Councilman Swift's suggestion, advised that it would take several months before the •
building could legally be removed and Councilman Swift then suggested that the
apartments not be occupied until the building was removed. Councilman Granger moved,
