17 8 . , a
seconded by -Councilman Swift, that the Council take the necessary steps to prepare
condemnation proceedings on the property as discussed. Motion passes unanimously. '
Councilman Werder moved that, subject to the approval of the Building Inspector and
Fire Inspector, Mr. Fabbro be permitted to make alterations as proposed at 520
Arguello Street. Councilman Britschgi did not believe that the Building Inspector
r
could grant a permit in accordance with Building Code. Councilman Werder believed
the suggestion could be made to the Building Inspector and Fire Inspector that if '
no greater fire hazard would exist the permit be granted. There was no second to
Councilman Werder's motion. Councilman McNulty was of the opinion that the ordi-
mance governing the type of building to built in this fire zone - Fire Zone No. 1 -
should be adhered to. Building Inspector Duncan stated that he believed it would
be_possible to make alterations in this fire zone up to 20% of the assessed valua-
tion of the building so long as the net result is an improvement to the fire hazard
condition. Councilman Granger moved, seconded by Councilman Swift,,that the permit
be granted subject to the Building Inspector's approval and any recommendation from
the Fire Department to make the building as fire proof as possible and subject to
the improvements not exceeding 20% of the assessed valuation. Councilman Britschgi
believed that if Mr. Fabbro was willing to spend more than 20116 of the assessed
valuation, he should not be limited to that in the event better materials would be
used in the improvement. Mr. Fabbro guaranteed that nothing else would be used in
the sidewalls of the building but 'sheet rock which is fire resisting.
