announced that he had not received a card. He advised that he had purchased his 79 <br />a <br />property in February and it was explained to him that the notices had been sent to <br />{ the latest record owner and that the records would probably not have that recent a <br />transfer listed. He expressed a wish to vote against the rezoning, as did one other <br />resident of the area who also purchased property within the last two months.- This <br />a <br />changed the voting to 11 for the rezoning and 9 against. It was the consensus of <br />Ithe Council that there was not a large enough majority in favor of the change and <br />Councilman Werder was of the opinion that the property owners in the area should come <br />to an agreement among themselves before any change is made in the zoning. He moved <br />that the matter be dropped from the agenda for the present time until the owners <br />of the property can reach an agreement among themselves. The motion was seconded by <br />.Councilman Granger and passed unanimously. <br />CITY ATTORNEY CURRIE PRESENTED AN ORDINANCE REZONING OAKWOOD PARK No. 1 from second resi- <br />dential to first residential district. Councilman Britschgi offered introduction <br />of ordinance, seconded by Councilman Werder. Motion passed unanimously. <br />MR. IRVING DUNN appeared in regard to the application of the Safeway Stores to, construct <br />a building at Arch and Brewster. He was advised that this matter had been referred <br />to the Planning Commission who had not had aft opportunity to discuss the matter as <br />yet. He was advised that the Planning Commission would meet on May 13, 1947. <br />CITY MANAGER BLOM ADVISED THAT SPECIFICATIONS FOR SEVERAL POSITIONS IN THE PERSONNEL <br />SYSTEM had been presented to the Council fo-r approval at the last meeting and that <br />no action had been taken at that time with the exception of approving the specifi- <br />cations for the position of Assistant Recreation Director. The other positions <br />covered were: Watchman - Port, Deputy Assessor, City Collector, ParK and Building <br />Superintendent, Parking Meter Service Man, Street Foreman. Councilman Werder moved, <br />seconded by Councilman Britschgi, that the specifications be approved as recom- <br />mended by the City Manager. Motion passed unanimously. <br />a <br />CITY MANAGER BLOM ADVISED THAT NEGOTIATIONS WERE STILL PENDING WITH COUGLASS AND <br />WOODHOUSE in regard to easement on Howland and Standish Streets and that a report <br />would be brought -in as soon as the matter is settled. The matter was carried on <br />the agenda. <br />CITY MANAGER BLOM REPORTED THAT IN REGARD TO THE BUTCHER FIELD PARKING LOT a meeting had <br />been held with the officials of the Southern Pacific Company following which a <br />rough estimate of the cost of improvements in the parking area and street had been <br />made by the Engineer's office. He presented a map of the proposed parking lot. He <br />' advised that he believed if the Southern Pacific would be unwilling for the city <br />to make any charge for parking.on the lot, they should be asked to contribute to <br />the cost of the street and parking area. The City Manager was instructed to negoti- <br />ate further with the Southern Pacific. <br />' CITY ATTORNEY CURRIE asked for additional time to report on making all trains stop in <br />Redwood City. It was so ordered. <br />CITY MANAGER BLOM REPORTED ON THE ACQUISITION OF PROPERTY FOR THE OPENING OF STREET <br />FROM BROADWAY TO MIDDLEFIELD. Three pieces of property fronting on Broadway for a <br />total width of 45 feet for an entrance to the proposed parking lot had been <br />appraised by Charles Mattfeldt. Negotiations had been made with the property <br />owners who have all agreed to accept the appraised value. One of the owners, <br />
