194 `
REQUEST WAS RECEIVED FROM THE PENINSULA CELEBRATION ASSOCIATION for the Council to donate
the sum of $1B00 for fireworks for'4th of July celebration. It was stated that
ti
it was the desire of the Association to have fireworks on both the 4th and 5th of ;
July this year and it was their belief that the advertising the city derived from
this celebration would warrant the expenditure. Francis Britschgi, chairman of the
Association, appeared in behalf of the request. Councilman werder and Mayor Hilton
were of the opinion that fireworks should not be displayed on more than one night, 1
however, Councilman Britschgi believed the Association should be the ones to
r
determine when the foreworks were to be displayed. Councilman Britschgi moved that
is
the request of the Association be granted. There was discussion in regard to the
fund from which the money would be granted, City Manager Blom advising that the
unbudgeted reserve did not have a large enough balance to take it from that fund
although there would be a cash reserve at the end of the year due to more receipts
being collected than had been anticipated. It was finally decided that the sum
of $1800 would be set up in the 1947-45 budget rather than taking it from any fund
at the present time. The motion was seconded by Councilman werder and passed
unanimously.
CITY MANAGER BLOM ADVISED THAT ABOUT SIX MONTHS AGO A COUNCIL COMMITTEE HAD INSPECTED
1
A PREFABRICATED HOUSE manufactured by the Lincoln Lumber Company. 'A house has just
been completed outside of the limits of the city in the Emerald Lake area and it p
was the opinion of the Building Inspector that the house would meet the requirements
of the Building Code. City Manager Blom advised that one of the features opposed
by the committee was that there was only one design for the houses. This has been
i
remedied and the outside plan varied. The local agent agreed to sign an agreement
not to build too many houses of the same design in the same location. I -t was the
opinion of the City Manager that inasmuch as the houses met the requirements of ;r
the Building Code there were no grounds on which to deny permission to build them jf
in the city. Councilman McNulty asked if the Code did not require 411 studding.
City Manager Blom replied that the Building Inspector had the discretion to approve
any eonstrzati.on giving strength equal to 411 studding. Councilman" Granger moved,
seconded by Councilman Swift, that a permit be granted to the Lincoln Lumber Company
to construct prefabricated houses in Redwood City and that an agreement with the
before mentioned company be entered into and filed with the Building Inspector
agreeing that not too many of the same design houses would be erected in the same
area. Motion passed unanimously.
BUILDING IMPSECTOR DUNCAN REPORTED SEVERAL ABATE14ENT PROCEEDINGS to be instituted in the `
near future. Included were buildings at the following locations: 1321 Middlefield
Road, 2202 Middlefield Road, Fabbro buklding At 529 Arguello, -old Gray Thorning mill '
and the old Yellow Cab building on Main Street. The Council was in accord with l
abatement proceedings being instituted on these buildings.
• 1.
Councilman Britschgi asked the status of the request made by Mr. Fabbro to build
apartments on Arguello Street. City Manager Blom advised that no permit had been
applied for and no plans submitted by Mr. Fabbro.
RESOLUTION REQUESTING TRANSFER OF FUNDS was presented. Following transfers were reques-
ted: $300.00 from Recreation Supplies and Services to Recreation Motor Vehicle.
City Manager Blom explained that this transfer was necessary because of the condition
±
