M. <br />ON ROLL CALL the following were present: Councilmen Floyd D. Granger, H. E. Holmquist, <br />George W. McNulty, Arthur V. Swift, William M. Werder, Mayor W. W. Hilton and City <br />Clerk R. S. Dodge. Also present were: City Manager E. W. Blom, City Attorney <br />Cuthbert B. Currie, Police Chief C. L. Collins, Building Inspector L. M. Duncan, City <br />Engineer C. L. Longson, Assistant Engineer H. L. Winter, Street Superintendent R. E. <br />Pontow, Fire Chief J. L. Lodi. Absent: Councilman Carl A. Britschgi. <br />14INUTES OF THE PREVIOUS MEETING were approved as mailed on motion of Councilman Werder, <br />seconded by Councilman Swift. Motion passed unanimously. <br />COMMUNICATION FROM JOHN J. BROPHY, Assessor -Auditor, was received requesting approval to <br />correct 194b-47 tax roll. Due to.a clerical error, veteran's exemption was "not <br />allowed on property described as Arbitrary Block 61, Lot 3-A. Councilman Werder <br />moved, seconded by Councilman Swift, that the 1946-47 tax roll be corrected'as <br />requested by the Assessor -Auditor. M6tion passed unanimously. <br />PETITION PROTESTING ESTABLISHMENT OF SETBACK LINES ON JEFFERSON AVENUE between Middle- <br />field Road and El Camino Real was received. City Manager Blom explained that the <br />petition was probably in regard to the Planning Commission's study of the Master <br />"Plan. He suggested that the petition be filed for future reference inasmuch as no <br />definite recommendations have been received as yet from the Planning Commission in <br />regard to this matter. It was so ordered. <br />APPLICATION WAS RECEIVED FROM CUDDY MOTOR COMPANY for a permanent used car lot on E1 <br />Camino Real in the 1400 block between the Normandy Restaurant and the Mohawk Service <br />Station on the west side of the highway. This permit would cancel the permit for <br />the location on Lathrop Street. There was considerable discussion in regard to <br />the fact that the proposed location did not adjoin the new car agency of the Cuddy <br />Motor Company and it was explained to the representative of the Cuddy Motor Company <br />who appeared before the Council that it had been a rule not to grant such permits <br />unless the lot adjoined the new car agency. The company's representative advised <br />that Cuddy Motor Company operated the Mohawk Service Station which would adjoin <br />the used car lot. Councilman Werder moved that a permit be granted the Cuddy Motor <br />Company to change their used car lot from the location granted on Lathrop Street <br />to the location adjoining the Mohawk Service Station on E1 Camino Real. Councilman <br />Holmquist requested written assurance that the Cuddy Motor Company did operate the <br />service station. There was no second to the motion before the Council. Councilman <br />Britschgi entered the meeting and the Mayor explained to him the subject under <br />discussion. Councilman Werder again moved that the Cuddy Motor Company be permitted <br />to operate a used car lot adjoining the Mohawk Service Station on the condition that <br />U, <br />
