200 <br />RECOMMENDATION' -WAS -RECEIVED FROM. THE PLANNING COMMISSION TO APPROVE APPLICATION'OF J. L. <br />STEVENS to subdivide Lot 13, Block 5, New High School Acres into two lots with the <br />condition that the dividing lot line be run the full distance through to the rear <br />lot line. Mr. and Mrs. Stevens appeared before the Council requesting that the lot <br />allowed to be subdivided as requested by them, however, it was the consensus of the <br />Council that it would make an ill shaped lot and Councilman Britschgi moved, seconded <br />by Councilman Granger, that the recommendation of the Planning Commission be re- r1 <br />jetted. Motion passed unanimously. <br />RECOMMENDATION OF THE PLANNING COMMISSION APPROVING APPLICATION OF WALDO STONE to use <br />front portion of Lot 74, Wellesley Park for a building site subject to the approval <br />of plans of the proposed residence was received. The Council was reluctant torill <br />approve the application due to the fact that there was less area in the lot -than is <br />required. Councilman Britschgi moved, seconded by Councilman Werder, that the <br />recommendation of the Planning Commission be rejected. Motion passed unanimously. <br />RECOMMENDATION OF THE PLANNING C014MISSION APPROVING APPLICATION OF SAM SCHILLACI to <br />subdivide Lot 2, Block 7, Oak Knoll Manor -into two lots was received. On motion of <br />Councilman Werder, seconded by Councilman Britschgi, the recommendation of the <br />Planning Commission was accepted. Motion passed unanimously. <br />i <br />COMMUNICATION WAS RECEIVED FROM, THE PLANNING COMMISSION IN REGARD TO APPLICATION FOR <br />BUSINESS USAGE OF LOTS 21 and 22, Block 3, Redwood Highlands. The Commission reeom- <br />mendeddisapproval of the application and went on record as disapproving the plans' <br />of building as submitted by Safeway Stores. <br />CITY ENGINEER LONGSON REPORTED ON THE PROGRESS OF WORK ON HUDSON STREET. He advised that <br />1 <br />there was fair progress on the project and that the work should be completed within <br />�J <br />the near future. Councilman Britschgi asked if the bonding company had been con- <br />tacted. City Manager Blom advised that'it had been and that the local bank had <br />also been contacted and that the matter was being handled satisfactorily. No <br />formal complaint has been filed but he believed the work would be completed more <br />quickly without doing so. In answer to Councilman Britschg's inquiry as to when <br />the work should be completed, City Engineer Longeon answered that it should be <br />completed about July let. Councilman Britschgi asked if it would be necessary to <br />grant an extension of time on the contract. -City Manager Blom advised that no <br />formal request had been received and that there was a question as to when the <br />time limit expired. An extension of ninety days had been granted and there was <br />4 <br />0 <br />a question as to whether the -expiration date was May 29 or June 29. He further <br />advised that there was to be a hearing before the Federal Court in June in regard <br />to the proceedings against the California Paving Company, however, if satisfactory <br />1 <br />i <br />progress is being made on the project, he did not believe any formal protest <br />i <br />should be entered by the city inasmuch as it would delay the work. <br />A communication was received from B. E. Sledge, Jr., 1557 Hudson Street, protest- <br />ing against payment on Hudson Street work until broken gutter in front of 1557 <br />g <br />Hudson Street is replaced. It was claimed that the gutter was broken by heavy. <br />road equipment turning around in the street. City Manager Blom advised that if <br />t <br />the gutter has been damaged by the contractor it would be replaced before the <br />a <br />j <br />project is completed. He also stated that 25% of the contract would be <br />iwithheld <br />before final payment is made. He advised that the contractor would be notified <br />of the complaint. <br />
