6 <br />202 <br />necessithting the omission of the rodeo features during a portion of the trying war <br />years from 1942 to 1945; and <br />WHEREAS, our service men have now returned and we can again celebrate the Fourth <br />of July as a happy festival, a time of joy and exultation in which all Americans have <br />caught the spirit of liberty which the fathers of our republic proclaimed to all the <br />world in 1776; and <br />WHEREAS, Peninsula Celebration Association is now planning the finest and most <br />colorful of all of the Fourth of July celebrations, rodeos and horse shows; and <br />WHEREAS, the day of June 21st has been selected as an appropriate day to desig- <br />nate as "Dress-Up_Day"; <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Honorable Walter W. Hilton, as Mayor, <br />issue a proclamation declaring and designating June 21, 1947 as "Dress -Up -Day" and <br />calling upon the citizenry to wear appropriate early California or Western costumes, <br />in keeping with the traditional background of our City, dating to the days of the <br />dashing Dons and stage coaches, and, to solicit the aid, support and cooperation <br />of all of the citizens of our City and all branches of the Citi( Qgvernment, to the <br />end that this celebration may be the most successful ever, not bringing joy and <br />happiness to all, but in publicising and benefiting our City and tie citizens. <br />Regularly passed and adopted this 2nd day of June, 1947• <br />AYES and in favor of said Resolution: Councilmen: BRITSCHGI, GRANGER, <br />HOLMQUIST, McNULTY, SWIFT,.WERDER, and Mayor HILTON: <br />NOES and against said Resolution: <br />ABSENT, Councilmen: NONE <br />Councilmen: NONE <br />W. W. HILTON <br />Mayor of the City of Redwood City <br />COUNCILMAN HOLMQUIST INQUIRED AS TO THE POSSIBILITY OF CURBING THE SPEED OF VEHICLES ON <br />WOODSIDE ROAD. Chief Collins advised that the city had no jurisdiction over this <br />road and that the State had indicated they did -not want to lower the speed limit <br />inasmuch as there were not enough buildings facing Woodside Road to warrant it. <br />Councilman Granger moved, seconded by Councilman Holmquist, that the State Highway <br />Department be called upon to lower the speed limit on Woodside Road to 35 miles an <br />hour within the city limits. Motion passed unanimously. <br />COUNCILMAN BRITSCHGI MOVED THAT THERE BE REFERRED TO THE TRAFFIC AND SAFETY COMMISSION <br />the possibility of assigning a police officer to the Middlefield Road and Main <br />Street crossing between the hours of 4 and 6 in the evening. <br />onded by Councilman McNulty and passed unanimously. <br />The motion was sec - <br />COUNCILMAN HOLMQUIST INQUIRED AS TO THE -STATUS OF THE CEDAR STREET EXTENSION. City Man- <br />ager Blom was to report on this matter at.the next meeting. <br />CITY MANAGER BLOM ADVISED THAT BIDS FOR THE INSTALLATION OF WATER 14AINS ON EDGEWOOD ROAD AND <br />IN REDWOOD VILLA PARK HAD BEEN RECEIVED. Three bids had been received as follows: <br />L. C. Jenson - total bid - $80251.50; H. L. Harp - total bid - $10,041.50; Fred <br />Fairley - total bid - $11,195.90. He recommended that he be authorized to enter <br />into a contract with L. C. Jensen for the installation of water mains in these two <br />locations.. Councilman Werder asked how the bids compared with the engineer's <br />estimate. City Manager Blom advised that it was a very fair bid. Councilman Werder <br />offered resolution and moved its adoption authorizing the City Manager to enter <br />into a contract with L. C. Jensen for the installation of water mains on Edgewood <br />Road and Redwood Villa Park. The motion was seconded by Councilman Britschgi and, <br />on -roll call, resolution was unanimously adopted. <br />RESOLUTION No. 480 <br />AWARDING CONTRACT FOR WATER MAINS IN REDWOOD VILLA PARK AND MURRAY TRACT <br />(JOB NO.1) AND ON EDGEWOOD ROAD BETWEEN THE ALAMEDA DE LAS PULGAS AND <br />CORDILLERAS ROAD (JOB NO. 2). <br />WHEREAS the City Manager of the City of Redwood City did advertise for sealed <br />bids for performing work as follows: <br />0 <br />I <br />V„ <br />
