that he had not checked the fee of Hahn and Campbell but that they now .have city 223 <br />i <br />maps from which they could work and that if the work were delayed for a period of <br />years it would probably be more costly because of having to prepare new maps. Coun- <br />oilman Britschgi was of the opinion that all of the ordinances need revision but he <br />was not in favor of spending $900 for the revision of only one. Councilman Granger <br />_ stated he had seconded tha motion only becuase he believed it might be possible to <br />get the work done at less cost now than later but, with the possibility that a <br />cheaper price might be obtained than the one from Hahn and Campbell, he withdrew his <br />second. City Attorney Currie stated that he wanted it understood that he was willing <br />to draft an ordinance but that the zoning ordinance was not merely drafting an ordi- <br />nance but necessitated field surveys of an engineering nature and he believed that <br />� technical assistance should be obtained. Councilman Werder, in answer to remarks of <br />Mayor Hilton, Councilmen Granger, Holmquist and Britschgi, that the amount of money <br />involved was too great, stated that it was a large sum of money but that the work <br />should have been done years ago. Councilman Britschgi again moved that the recom- <br />mendation of the Planning Commission be denied. There was no second to the motion. <br />Councilman Granger moved, seconded by Councilman Swift, that the matter be carried <br />a - <br />'i on the agenda. Under the question, Mayor Hilton questioned the necessity of carrying„ <br />the matter over and Councilman Granger explained that it was for the purpose of <br />•ascertaining if the work could be done for less money. Motion passed unanimously. <br />COMMUNICATION WAS RECEIVED FROM GRAY-THORNING LUMBER COMPANY in regard to abatement pro- <br />ceedings which have been instituted against their planing mill on Main Street and <br />notifying of improvements which they intend to make. In answer to inquiry from Mayor <br />G11� Hilton, Building Inspector Duncan advised that, while the improvemtns would improve <br />IIIII���� the appearance of the building, they would not improve the condition of the building.. <br />Inasmuch as a hearing is to be held on this abatement proceeding at the next meeting, <br />Councilman Werder moved, seconded by Councilman Britschgi, that the Gray-Thorning <br />Lumber Company be advised to have an agent present at the next meeting to show cause <br />why the mill should not be abated. Motion passed unanimously. <br />COMMUNICATION WAS RECEIVED FROM THE YELLOW AND SEQUOIA CAB COMPANY in regard to abatement <br />proceedings against garage on Main Street. Councilman Werder moved, seconded by <br />Councilman Britschgi, that the communication be carried on the agenda for the next <br />meeting, and the company so notified. Motion passed unanimously. <br />COMMUNICATION WAS RECEIVED FROM SANFORD B. DOLE SUBMITTING RESIGNATION AS MEMBER OF TIE <br />BOARD OF LIBRARY TRUSTEES due to moving from the city. Councilman Holmquist moved, <br />seconded by Councilmen Granger, that the resignation be accepted with regret and the <br />r Clerk be instructed to express appreciation of the Council for the many years of <br />service rendered by Mr. Dole on this Board. Motion passed unanimously. <br />The matter of an-appointment of a new member to the Library Board was placed on the <br />agenda for the next meeting. <br />APPLICATION FOR PERMIT TO SHOW IN REDWOOD CITY WAS RECEIVED FROM CRAFT SHOWS. City Mana- <br />ger Blom advised that Oakland and Vallejo, cities in which the company has previously <br />shown, were contacted and a favorable report was received from both cities. He also <br />advised that Foley and Burke had cancelled their appearance so that this was the only <br />show which would be coming to town in the near future. Councilman Werder moved, <br />seconded by Councilman Britschgi, that the permit be granted. Motion passed <br />unanimously. <br />
