1 <br />Mrs. L. Otzen, 40b Hopkins Avenue, again appeared protesting assessment on her <br />property. She compared it to property in'neighborhood. It was explained by the <br />appraisal firm that Mrs. Otzen had two lots as against one on the property with <br />257 <br />which• she was comparing her property. It was -the assessor's recommendation that no <br />change be made in the assessment other than a reduction of $250 on the -sun porch. <br />Councilman Werder moved,- seconded by Councilman Holmquist, that the recommendation <br />of the Assessor be accepted. Motion passed unanimously. <br />r <br />Mrs. W. G. Draewell, 27 Nevada Street, again appeared claiming that base for figuring <br />assessments on property was set too high. She referred to the land valuation and <br />not improvements. <br />City Attorney Currie asked that the records show that the appraisal firm had equal- <br />ized the assessments on property and land and that the method used was not a matter <br />to be discussed by the Board. -This statement was concurred in by the representative <br />of the appraisal firm. <br />Mrs. -Ivy Kelting, 149 Oakdale Street, requested information as to the method used to <br />determine the number of square feet in her home. She was of the opinion that the <br />assessment card did not show enough square feet. <br />Communication was received from Charlotte Shaw and Edwin Shaw protesting assessment <br />on property at 625 and 633 Fulton Street. After a discussion with the appraisal <br />firm, the Clerk was instructed to write to Mr. and Mrs. Shaw advising that the <br />Council believed it was a fair and equitable assessment. This was done. on- motion of <br />Councilman Werder, seconded by Councilman Holmquist. Motion passed unanimously. <br />Communication was received from F. E. Driscoll, 150 Somerset Street, protesting <br />assessment on above property and advising a check was enclosed for payment of taxes. <br />f� No check was received, however. The Clerk was instructed to address Mr. Driscoll and <br />If inform him that the assessment on his property was comparable with those in the <br />neighborhood and that no change would be made in the assessment. - <br />Communication was received from Vernon L. Roberts in protest against assessment on <br />property described as Arb. Blk. 251, Lot 11A W 1/2. Lot 11 Blk. G., Woodside Acres <br />Map No. 1. The Clerk was instructed to advise Mr. Roberts that he le - entitled - to <br />a further hearing in the matter and that,it had been referred to the Cleminshaw <br />Company to expedite the proceedings. The final decision rests with the Board of <br />i <br />Equalization and it was the consensus of the Council that no change would be made <br />in the assessment. <br />Communication was received from City Assessor John J. Brophy recommending the <br />i <br />following adjustment in regard to the Sadler Supply Company: The total appraised <br />value on personal property be decreased from $72,500 to $63,030 and that the <br />assessed be decreased from $43,500 to $37,820. The appraised value of improvement <br />be decreased from $420200 to $41,260 and the assessed value from $331760 to $33,010. <br />It-was,explained that Mr. Sadler had not shown his books to the appraisal firm <br />when the first assessment was made and after his protest•he had opened the books <br />for examination. Councilman Holmquist moved, seconded by Councilman Werder, that <br />the recommendation of the City Assessor be accepted. Motion passed unanimously. <br />COUNCILMAN WERDER•MOVED, seconded by Councilman Holmquist, that the meeting be adjourned <br />until 10:00 A. M., Monday, August 19, 1947.
