258 <br />R MINUTES OF ADJOURNED MEETING <br />BOARD OF EQUALIZATION <br />AUGUST 19, 1947 <br />10:00 A. M. <br />ON ROLL CALL the following were present: Councilmen: H. E. Holmquist, Arthur V. Swift, <br />William M. Werder, Mayor W. W. Hilton and City Clerk R. S. Dodge. Also present <br />were: City Manager E. W. Blom, City Attorney Cuthbert B. Currie and Plice Chief <br />C. L. Collins and City Assessor -Auditor John J. Brophy. Absent: Councilmen Carl <br />A. Britschgi, Floyd D. Granger and George W. McNulty. . <br />MAYOR HILTON ANNOUNCED that this was an adjourned meeting of the Board of Equalization <br />and called for protests. <br />Mrs. A. Redman, 34 Grand Street, appeared protesting the assessment on improvements <br />at this address. Mr. William Cleminshaw appeared and, after checking the assess- <br />ment card, recommended no change in the assessment. Councilman Holmquist moved, <br />seconded by Councilman Werder, that the recommendation of the appraisal firm be <br />accepted and no change be made in the assessment. Motion passed unanimously.. <br />A written protest was received from Evelyn Hydenfeldt in regard to assessment on <br />personal property. City Assessor.Brophy advised that the personal property con- <br />sisted of a desk, typewriter, adding machine and that he believed the assessment of <br />0100 was fair and equitable. It was the.consensus of the Council that no change <br />should be made in this assessment. . <br />Mrs. P. E. Brand appeared.protesting the assessment on improvements on buildings <br />housing the California Highway Patrol and Brand Plumbing Company. Mr. William <br />Cleminshaw checked the assessment card and recommended no change in the assessment. <br />Councilman Swift moved, seconded by Councilman Holmquist, that the recommendation <br />of the appraisal firm be accepted and no change should be made in this assessment. <br />Motion passed unanimously. <br />Judge R. A. Rapsey appeared on behalf of Remington Rand and requested that the <br />hearing on this protest be continued to Thursday at 10:00 A. M. His request was <br />granted. <br />Mr. Henry A. Beeger appeared again protesting the assessment on property which <br />houses the Woolworth Store and Town Shop. After some discussion, it was decided <br />to hold this matter over until the adjourned meeting on Thursday morning with a <br />definite decision to be reached at that time. <br />Mr. W. L. Meussdorffer, 2460 E1 Camino Real protested.assessment on improvements <br />at Main and Pine Streets. After checking the assessment card, Mr. William Clemin- <br />shaw recommended no change. Councilman Holmquist moved, seconded by Councilman <br />Werder, that the recommendation of the appraisal firm be accepted and no change <br />made in the assessment on this piece of property. <br />Mr. Meussdorffer also protested assessment on property at 2460 E1 Camino Real. <br />After checking the records, ter. Cleminshaw discovered that $415 was assessed to_4, <br />this property in error. It had been assessed a corner influence and the property <br />is not on a corner. He recommended that this amount be deducted from the assess- <br />ment but no further change. Councilman Swift moved, seconded by Councilman <br />Holmquist, that the recommendation of the appraisal firm be accepted. The motion <br />passed unanimously. <br />COUNCILMAN SWIFT MOVED, seconded by Councilman Werder, that the meeting be adjourned <br />until 10:00 A. M., Tuesday morning, August 19, 1947. Motion passed unanimously. <br />
