ter' 258-F <br />'•'t6: study the matter together and protest on the basis of the whole Peninsula if that was the <br />wish of the various councils. It was the contention that the protest would have more bearing <br />from & larger area. It was also suggested that the League of California Cities be contacted for <br />assistance. Councilman Granger moved, seconded by Councilman McNulty, that the City Attorney <br />be authorized to represent the Council in protesting the proposed increase in telephone rates <br />as set forth in the amendment of the original application of the telephone company. Motion <br />passed unanimously. <br />CITY MANAGER BLOM REQUESTED AUTHORITY TO ADVERTISE FOR INFORMAL QUOTATIONS ON VEHICIES. He presented <br />a list of two dump trucks, 1 sedan for the fire chief, L pick-up truck for the street painter <br />and 1 pick-up truck for the water department. There would be trade-in vehicles for some of the <br />above. Two pick-up trucks would be paid for out of the equipment replacement fund and the street <br />pick-up truck and fire chief's sedan have been tentatively approved in the budget. He was re- <br />questing authority to receive 'quotations in order to facilitkte the purchase of this equipment. <br />Councilman Werder moved, seconded by Councilman Holmquist, that the City Manager be authorized <br />to advertise for informal quotations on the trucks and sedan as listed. Motion passed unani- <br />mously. <br />CLAIM N0. 2066 to 2135 in the amount of $38,943.66, were approved and ordered paid on motion of <br />Councilman McNulty, seconded by bouncilman Werder. Motion passed unanimously. <br />COUNCILMAN 14ERDER MOVED, seconded by Councilman Britschgi, that the meeting be adjourned. Motion <br />passed unanimously. <br />R. S.DODGE <br />CITY CLERK <br />***(Omission on Page 258-B) <br />BIDS FOR CONSTRUCTION OF RECREATION BUILDING WERE OPENED. Bids were received from Van Bokkelen Cole <br />Company in the amount of $49,475, and from Cattich Bros. and Stevenson in the amount of $47,962. <br />The latter bid contained three alternates. Inasmuch as the bids required considerable study, <br />Councilman Granger moved, seconded by Councilman Werder, that the matter be referred to the <br />proper department and placed on the agenda. Motion passed unanimously. Recreation Director <br />Morton advised that it was necessary to obtain permission from the Federal Housing Expediter <br />to build the building. <br />COMMUNICATION WAS RECEIVED FROM THE CHAMBER OF COKMERCE recommending that the City take a one page <br />ad in the San Mateo County Fiesta Edition of the Burlingame Advance at a costof $150.00. <br />Councilman Granger moved, seconded by Councilman Swift, that the recommendation be accepted <br />and the money be appropriated from unbudgeted reserve to the advertising fund. Motion passed <br />unanimously. <br />CITY ATTORNEY CURRIE ADVISED THAT IN REGARD TO REQUEST OF SAFEWAY STNS for acknowledgement of letter <br />submitting plans for building at Arch and Brewster Streets, the letter be a;knogledged and that <br />the action of the Council in passing Resolution No. 350 was out of order or that the Council <br />reserves the right to Aso the validity of it. He also recommended that in regard to the re- <br />quest for a list of exceptions to the plans, that the Safeway Stores be advised this would be <br />considered at a future time. Councilman herder moved, seconded by Councilman Britschgi, that <br />the Safeway Stores communication be acknowledged advising receipt of plans and specifications <br />and also advising that the Council reserves the right to questi m the validity of :-Iedblutiox No. <br />350, and that exceptions to the plans and specifications will be considered at a future date. <br />Motion passed unanimously. <br />SKETCH OF TRAILER COURT WAS SUBMITTED BY CORAL MAXON. City Manager Blom advised tht the sketch had <br />been received too late to check it and recommended that the permit might be agmved subject to the ap- <br />0 <br />0 <br />
