286
decision had been reached, but the intention was to move the building to another site.
Councilman Holmquist stated that the building was donated to the City a number of
years ago, and that 1t wouldpossibly be.wise to'investigate cost of moving the building
with the thought in mind that possibly building could be used for recreational facilities
for the neighboring area. Councilman Werder moved, seconded by Councilman Holmquist,
that the matter be referred to the Recreation Commission for their consideration.
Motion carried.
MRS. OLIVIA NARDELLI again appeared in an effort to have her request for permit to operate
restaurant at 2303 El Camino Real approved. Building, Fire and Health Departments
were unable to report further as they were unable to enter the premises as same was
locked up. A Mrs. Fries and a Miss Isabelle Rodriquez appeared representing their
mother, Mrs. Geraldi, the owner of the building. They asked that the permit be denied
as their mother was attempting to haveā¢the lease cancelled. Petition was read from
some 35 residents of the neighborhood also protesting the granting of a permit. Coun-
cilman Werder was of the opinion that inasmuch as the Police Chief recommended against
the issuing of same, Council should abide by their decision. Councilman Granger,
stating that he was not moving against the Interests -of the colored people, moved
that permit be denied, seconded by Councilman Holmquist. Motion carried unanimously.
S & W. ALLEDGED VIOLATION OF ZONING ORDINANCE. Proper officials inspected the premises
and reported the only violation evident was the storage of barrels of processed fruit
on a lot in the second residential area. S & W. officials explained that these
barrels were being removed and the violation would be cleared up.
S. & W. PROPOSED REZONING OF BLOCK 20, Eastern addition from Second Residential to Indus-
trial. Planning Commission after conducting hearings, recommended the rezoning as
requested with the exception of the 100' strip which they recommend be rezoned to
Business District. Councilman Holmquist moved, seconded by Councilman Britschgi,
that the Planning Commission recommendation be approved. Mr. L. W. Whiteley, 419
Manzanita, appeared to protest the rezoning, asking that final action be postponed
until Council could study the matter further, suggesting that a meeting be held with
the residents of the area. Mrs. Rose Solari, 338 Manzanita spoke against the rezon-
Ing stating that he home was hemmed in on two sides by the plant as it now exists,
and future expansion would surround her property on three sides. She stated that
the understanding that she originally sold part of her property to Pratt Lowe
Canning Company was incorrect. Mr. Richard tum Suden represented Mr. Malvino corner
Manzanita and Middlefield Road,
and Mrs. McVey spoke at
length against'the rezoning.
Mr. Adrian Faulk, President of
S. & W.'advised that they
had purchased the property
some years ago from Pratt Lowe,
that the plant had been
in existance for many years
and that the general nature of
the area was industrial.
He stated further that they
would have never made the large investment if the area were not industrial. Mr.
Faulk explained that the barrels stored on the former parking lot was due to large
influx of cherries and shortage of storage space, advising that their intention was 1
to remove barrels as rapidly as possible, and that they had no intention of using
the space for further storage. In answer to Councilman Britschgi's inquiry as to
the nature of future buildings, Mr. Thom Rhorabough advised that they certainly
would not build a monstrosity, and that they had no intention to build blank walls
facing Manzanita Street.
