M. <br />ON ROLL CALL the following were noted present: Councilman C. A. Britschgi, Floyd D. <br />Granger, H. E. Holmquist, G, W. McNulty, A. V. Swift, W. M. Werder, Mayor W. W. <br />Hilton and City Clerk R. S. Dodge. Also present were: City Manager E. A. Rolison <br />City Attorney C. B: Currie and Police Chief C. L. Collins. <br />MAYOR HILTON STATED THE PURPOSE OF THE ADJOURNED MEETING was to set a time for special <br />election, fix poling places and appoint election officials for the Kensington <br />Square proposed annexation, also to further consider S & W application to rezone <br />Block 20, Eastern Addition from second residential to industrial zone. <br />k <br />MAYOR HILTON EXPLAINED that 5/7ths of the Council met with representatives of the inter- <br />ested property owners, together with S. & W. officials Sunday morning to study the <br />situation after which an amicable decision was reached. The proposed compromise <br />was to establish a 50 foot strip along Middlefield Road for business district and <br />to allow a 15 foot strip along Manzanita to remain in the second residentialz one <br />to correspond with 15 foot set -back on the opposite side of Manzanita. Councilman <br />Granger moved,. seconded by Councilman Swift that City Engineer be instructed to pre- <br />pare a metes and bounds description of the property involved in line with the above <br />compromise. City Attorney will prepare the necessary ordinance for introduction <br />I <br />at the next meeting. Under the question, <br />MRS. FANNY McVEY addressed the Council protesting the reduction of the business district <br />on Middlefield from 100 to 50 feet, stating that her property would be damaged inas- <br />much as here lot extended back 100 feet on Manzanita. It was explained that the <br />lots involved front on Manzanita, to a depth of 50 feet, and that.the length of the <br />lots extend 100 feet along Middlefield. In her particular case, her property con- <br />sists of halves of two lots resulting in 50 feet frontage on Middlefield and 100 feet Y <br />on Manzanita. She was also advised that she could have her property rezoned along <br />the same lines as the front part of the S. & W. property. ' <br />MR. L. WHITELEY STATED he misunderstood the action of the committee, being of the opinion <br />that it was agreed to make a set -back along Heller Street as well as Manzanita. <br />E <br />Sketch of the area which was agreed upon at the Sunday meeting was shown to Mr. <br />'Whiteley which made no proposed change on Heller Street. i <br />MR. LOUIS WEISS AND MRS. MALVINO ADDRESSED the Council also against proposed rezoning, <br />however, it was explained that Mr. Malvino's attorney was present at the meeting <br />and had agreed to the compromise. Motion was ye <br />g p put to vote and carried unanimousl <br />s <br />I <br />CITY ATTORNEY CURRIE DISCUSSED THE TWO RESOLUTIONS setting the date of a special election, <br />fixing poling places and appointing election officials for the purpose of voting on E <br />E <br />the proposed annexation of Kensington Square. He explained he had drawn two <br />resolutions to distinguish between the two areas, north side of Jefferson Avenue <br />to be known as -North Kensington Square and the area at the south side of Jefferson <br />to be known as South Kensington Square.
