The Redwood City Retail Merchants would erect and maintain the signs, keeping them in perfect condition, agreeing to remove the signs when they are through with them. Councilman Warder moved that the recommendation of the Chamber of Commerce requesting permit for the signs be granted. Councilman Holmquist seconded, and the motion carried. Further discussion brought up the legality of the "lease" of City property for this purpose, and City Attorney Currie suggested the alternative of a licensing agreement with the sign company. It was agreed that the matter be referred to the City Manager for him { to work out the necessary agreement, and report back to the Council. COMMUNICATION FROM THE WASHINGTON SCHOOL PARENT TEACHERS ASSOCIATION, requesting permis- sion to conduct an ice cream and candy concession on the school grounds, was referred to the School grounds, was referred to the School Trustees for investigation and report back to the Council. S & W REZONING: Mrs. Solari and Mrs. Malvina spoke in protest of the unsightly collection of boxes and barrels left by S & W on the property in question. Inasmuch as S & W had previously agreed to remove these, Councilman Werder moved that the City Clerk address a letter to S & W directing them to live up to the word of their verbal agreement, and keep their part of the bargain, and that the matter be duly and regu- larly'continued to the meeting of December let, pending response of S & W to said letter from the City Clerk. Councilman McNulty seconded the motion, which carried. COUNCILMAN McNULTY 14OVED the filing of affidavit of publication of ordinance covering rezoning portions of Block 20, Eastern addition. Councilman Swift seconded the ,motion, which carried. VIM. D. SMITH OF THE CALIFORNIA PAVING COMPANY appeared to ask approval of the statement he rendered for the final payment of the Hudson Street project, Resolution of Intention 1946-1. This statement showed a balance on the Final Engineer's Estimate of $17,990.69, plus extra work in the sum of $1,103.59, plus a charge for red rock (unsupported by purchase order or other authorization) in the amount of 04,559.93, total claim $23,654.20. Mr. Smith submitted that the charge for red rock was in accordance to verbal instruction from the then City Engineer to do whatever was necessary in order to make the street passable to the residents. City Manager Rolison reported that he had seen written authorization for all other work charged for on the above statement, with the exception of the red rock. It was pointed out that funds for the full: payment of this account were not available, and that funds would1have to be transferred into the account before payment in full could be made. After discussion, Councilman Werder moved that the funds available in this account be paid on this bill, and the balance should be held up pending proper transfer of funds, and an O.K. by the City Manager and City Engineer of the unauthor- ized charge for red rock. Councilman Holmquist seconded the motion, and carried. JOHN M. ROBB APPEARED TO PROTEST CHARGE FOR WEED ABATEMENT on his property, Lot 3A, Block I! 336, and for mowing grass of Lot 6, Blick 8, Range D, Mezesville. Mr. Robb asserted that he personally hired a man to mow the grass on the first mentioned lot, and that the City did not at any time burn the grass on this property. He asked that the f;, dl
