City Attorney Currie reported that if this constituted a donation <br />it could not legally be made from City funds. Councilman Werder moved that a letter <br />be wrttten'to the Association denying their request, but explaining fully the reason <br />for the denial: Motion was seconded by Councilman Holmquist, and carried. ' <br />COM14UNICATION FROM CALIFORNIA MISSION TRAILS ASSOCIATION, Ltd., was read; requesting the <br />City Council to appoint a member to the Board of Directors of that Association. <br />Mayor Hilton thereupon appointed Councilman Swift to fill the'position. pp�� <br />REQUEST, OF WASHINGTON SCHOOL P. T'. A. for permission to operate concession for the sale of <br />candy etc. to the school children. Copy of letter written by Superintendent of <br />Schools, Andrew Spinas to Mrs. Ella Rehbock, of' the Washington School P. T. A., was <br />read. It was the opinion of Mr. Spinas that the School Board would not object to <br />this project, but the City Attorney raised the question of business being conducted <br />within a second residential area. Councilman Werder moved that the question be <br />placed on the agenda to enable the City Attorney to study the question further and <br />report back to the Council. Motion was seconded by Councilman Swift, and carried. <br />THREE COMMUNICATIONS PROTESTING THE PROPOSED NEW ZONING ORDINANCE were read. Mrs. May <br />F. Brand, Mr; Alexander Samson, Mr. H. H. Weiner, wrote letters of protest, stating <br />that the new zoning ordinance would bring changes contrary to their best interests. <br />Letter from the Planning Commission was read, stating that at the last regular <br />meeting of the Commission, a resolution was adopted, after two public hearings as <br />required by law, recommending to the City Council the adoption of the proposed new <br />Zoning Ordinance for the City of Redwood City. Copy of the aforementioned Resolution <br />was attached to the letter.- City Attorney Currie submitted that the ordinance <br />should be studied by the Council, before being introduced, public hearings to be 11�� <br />held after such study by the Council. -After discussion, it was decided that the <br />Planning Commission should meet with the City Council for the -purpose of studying <br />the ordinance. The City Clerk was requested to acknowledge receipt of the letters <br />of protest. <br />CITY MANAGER ROLISON REPORTED ON HIS NEGOTIATIONS WITH THE CORCORAN SIGN COMPANY. The <br />City Manager and the City Attorney were working out a licensing agreement with the <br />Corcoran Sign Company, to cover a four year period, and including a clause making <br />the license revocable within a 60 day period. Councilman Werder moved that the <br />recommendation of the City Manager to approve a licensing agreement with the Cor - <br />Goran Sign Company, such agreement to contain the limitations suggested above, be <br />accepted. Councilman Holmquist seconded the motion, which carried. <br />CITY AUDITOR'S REQUEST FOR AUTHORIZATION TO CORRECT TAX ROLLS. Four letters from the <br />City Auditor were submitted, listing requests for corrections on the tax rolls. <br />Auditor Brophy stgted that all corrections were due to omissions, clerical errors <br />or similar causes, and that the corrections were necessary, and the approval of the <br />Council required by law. He stated further that the total of the many corrections <br />was relatively small, totalling $93.51 in additional taxes. Councilman Granger moved <br />approval of the tax roll corrections as submitted by the City Auditor. Councilman <br />Holmquist seconded the motion, which carried. <br />INCREASE IN STATER RATES was opened for discussion. Since it was the concensus of opinion <br />that an increase was unavoidable, Councilman Holmquist moved that the City Manager <br />be authorized to increase the water rates by 10%, effective the first of January, <br />L <br />
