32" t
for a street 'light in this location had been received but that it was a
rather difficult area to service without considerable expense. At the
present time, the necessary wire is not available, however, it is intended
to proceed with this work as soon as the material is available. Fire Chief
Lodi explained that it was impossible to get a position for the poles until
some high tension wires were removed and until it was possible to place the
poles and obtain the material it would be impossible to do the work. Coun-
oilman Britschgi moved, seconded by Councilman Granger that the City Manager
l
be instructed to notify the signers of the petition of the oity's position
in the matter so that they will know what the city intends to do. Motion
passed unanimously.
Application for license to operate a restaurant at 727 E1 Camino Real was received
i
from Harold F. Luchsinger and Albert Baron. This is the location of the
Redwood Diner presently being operated by J. S. Graham. Councilman Britschgi
moved, seconded by Councilman Swift, that the permit be granted subject to
the restrictions that nave already been placed on the property. Under the
question, City Attorney McCarthy suggested that the applicants be notified
that there is a document of record and refer them to it for full restrictions.
This suggestion was incorporated in the motion which passed unanimously.
This was the time set for the hearing of protests to improvements in Redwood Ter-
race No. 1. City Clerk Dodge advised he had two written protests, one from
Mrs Edna E. Hutchinson and one from Mrs. Charlotte F. Nichols who jointly
own Lots 1, 2, 3, 4, Biook 8, West Redwood. The counsel representing the two
property owners requested information as to what the improvements consisted
of -and what portion of the coat the developers of Redwood Terrace No. 1 were
to pay. City Engineer Wilson explained that the work includes the develop -
went of a new area which is at the present time entirely acreage lying to
the west of the city limits. The plans include a proper storm drain system
which is badly needed. In determining the property which would benefit from
that, it was decided to oarry the drain underground down Oak Street to the
oreek. The split of cost nae been figured so that the developers will pay
the entire cost of the work outside of the city limits and 7b6 of the cost
within the city, the remaining 2VIe to be spread among the property benefitted
within the city limits. He explained that with the exception of a small
neighborhood type business area at the end of Roosevelt, the property will be
all first residential district. The part that is within the city limits at
the present time is now zoned for second residential district and it is not
proposed to make any change in the zoning. The protestants had no further
objections to offer at this time and Councilman Britschgi moved, seconded by
Councilman Granger, filing of affidavit of publication in the newspaper,
affidavit of the City Clerk of posting notice on the Council Chamber doors
and affidavit of Street Superintendent of posting notices at intervals of
300 feet along the property. Motion passed unanimously. The resolution
overruling protests was held over until the appearance of Mr. Ernest Wilson,
attorney in the proceedings for the developers of Redwood Terrace No. 1.
a -
