ASSESSOR BROPHY REQUESTED AUTHORITY TO CORRECT CERTAIN ASSESS14ENTS, in letter dated December 15th, resulting in some increase and:some decreases in the roll, in accordance with Revenue and Taxation Code Section 49862. Request was granted on motion.of Councilman Granger, seconded by Councilman Werder and carried: REQUEST FOR CANCELLATION OF TAXRD ON SCHOOL PROPERTY was submitted by Assessor Brophy. Request originated from Elementary School -District and asked for cancellation of tax bills Nos. 7351 and 7352. Councilman Warder moved cancellation authority, seconded by Councilman Britschgi.and carried. 001vIMUNICATION RECEIVED FRO14 JAS. T. O'KEEFE representing Harry Hoefler regarding permit to erect sign in front of his office at 516 El Camino Real. Mr. Hoefler had been denied permit some weeks ago, and request was to reopen the matter for further consideration. It was suggested that the Clerk acknowledge receipt of Mr. O'Keefe's letter asking him to appear at the January 5th meeting at which time he'will be given an opportunity to present his case. TRAFFIC AND SAFETY COMMISSION RECOMMENDATIONS were next considered. Suggestion No. 1. Commission recommended that set -back lines be established at Whipple and El Camino Real intersection to take care of possible realignment of E1 Camino Real to partially straighten out the curve at that point. It was thought this should be done before any building permits might be issued. Recommendation concurred in by motion of Councilman Granger, seconded by Councilman Britschgi, proper authorities to take the necessary action. Motion carried. Recommendation No. 2, suggesting that "stoppingor parking will not be permitted at any time" signs be installed, a police officer be on duty during rush hours, in an effort to speed the traffic from the short street entering Broadway from the S. P. depot. After considerable discussion Councilman Werder moved, seconded'by Councilman Britschgi, that the plan be tried out. City Manager advised signs would be installed as soon as possible. Motion carried, Councilman Granger voting "No:. Recommendation No. 3. Commission suggested installation of traffic lights be revised at Five Points, revamping of all signals from Five Points to northerly city limits including installation of new signals at Whipple Avenue. City Manager reported on his recent conference with Colonel Skeggs of the Highway Commission who notified the City Manager the only signals contemplated in the 1948-49 budget was at Main and Bayshore with possible signals at Chestnut & Bayshore the following year. According to Mr. Skaggs, there is no liklihood of signals being available for Whipple and E1 Camino, nor any revamping of the existing signals at State expense for several years to come.
