t the.time for whieh, the permit would be granted. City Attorney McCarthy re-
ferred.to the ordinance and advised there was no time limit specified but
concurred in Councilman Werder's opinion that at any time conditions, did not
comply -with the ordinance abatement proceedings could be instituted. . Council-
man Vierder moved, seconded by Councilman Swift, that upon the recommendation
of the Building Inspector and due to the location being one that would not be
detrimental to surrounding property the permit be granted'.. Motion passed
' unanimously.
Petition was received signed by many residents of Redwood Pity requesting signal
lights.be placed at the Chestnut Street and Bayshore Highway crossing'to oper-
ate especially at the peak hours of traffic Councilman Werder expressed
himself as being heartily in favor of the request but asked what the.plans were
for the new highway at this intersection. City Manager Blom advised, that it
was planned to take the highway over Chestnut Street and also the railroad
tracks but that the project would probably not be completed for several years
and he believed the City would be justified in requesting traffic signals at
this intersection. He believed the State Highway Department should bear at
least part -of the cost or possibly all of it. Councilman Werder moved, second -
ed by Councilman Armstrong, that the City Manager be instructed to confer with
the necessary authorities to place traffic signals at Chestnut Street and
Bayshore Highway and to bring in a report at the next meeting. Motion passed
unanimously.
Communication was received from the Land Development Company referring to a.deposi-
tary contract entered into between the City of Redwood City, Land Development
Company and the First National Bank wherein the Land Development Company
deposited with the bank the sum of $$65,000 to insure the completion of improve-
ments in Redwood Terrace No. 2. Reference was made to Resolution No. 288 in
which it was resolved that the city would furnish water mains in this ..,tract.
Due to the fact that the contractors are now ready to install the paving and
water pipe is not available at this time, it was requested that the installation
of sidewalks be eliminated at this time with the understanding that an addition
al agreement be made for the installation of the sidewalks after the.water
pipe has been installed, the, water pipe to be installed in -the sidewalk area.
It was requested that the City Manager be authorized to eliminate therepnstru-
tiori of the sidewalks from the agreement and authorize him to enter itito'a
separate agreement for the installation of the sidewalks at,a later date so
that the Land Development Company would ke in a position to complete all the
requirements and obligations of the agreement. City Manager Blom stated he
would be willing to recommend the request be granted insofar as one street was
concerned, that street being parallel and adjacent to Woodside Road. 611 pipe
is0ailable for the other streets in the tract. It is planned to put 8" pipe
in the street adjacent to Woodside Road and for that reason the sidewalk
should be delayed until the pipe is available. Mr. 4Verder, representing the
Land Development Company, appeared and stated this would be agreeable to his
company. He said they wanted as supplement agreement so that 250 of their
deposit would not be held up pending completion of the entire improvements,
3
