Motion passed unanimously. <br />Communication was received from the Planning Commission recommending favorable action by <br />the Council of acceptance of extensions of the easterly ends of Howland and Stan- <br />dish Streets subject to the condition that an easement be provided in addition to <br />the proposed extension of Standish Street, the easement to be the Pull width of the <br />street and extend from the end of the proposed extension of Standish to the east- <br />erly property line of the petitioners. It was also recommended that the property <br />so .dedicated to be returned to the petitioners within a reasonable period of time <br />if no tie can be made into an access road of the proposed freeway. City Manager <br />Blom explained that the problem arises from the filling of the area that is now <br />being developed commercially between the Old Ranch Line and the Bayshore Highway <br />and that in the case of Standish.Street, it might be desirable to build a service <br />road to the freeway. He also advised that it would desirable to have an easement <br />to provide for a storm drain. Councilman Armstrong moved the recommendatLon of <br />the Planning Commission as explaimed by the City Manager be referred to the City <br />Manager for.further consultation with the owners of the property to see if the <br />easements can be obtained and that a report be made back to the Council. The motion <br />was seconded by Councilman McNulty. Under the question, Councilman Granger asked <br />if the City would be assuming any obligation if the streets were accepted by the <br />City.. City Manager Blom advised that the City would be responsible for maintenance <br />if the streets were up to the city specifications, the maintenance being minor <br />repair work. City Attorney McCarthy pointed out that the city never accepts any <br />responsibility except for minor repairs. Motion passed unanimously. <br />Communication was received from City Manager Blom advising of the resignation of Mr. <br />Henry Beeger as a member of the Port Commission and recommending the appointment of <br />Mr. S. D. Herkner to his unexpired term which runs until the first Monday in Jply, ` <br />1950. Councilman Britschgi moved, seconded by Councilman Granger, that the recom- <br />e <br />mendation of the City Manager be accepted. Motion passed unanimously. <br />Councilman Armstrong moved, seconded by Councilman Britschgi, that the City Clerk <br />be instructed to express to Mr. Beeger the Council's regret of his resignation and <br />thanks for the many years of service he has extended to the city. Motion passed <br />unsnimously. <br />Communication was received from the Planning Commission recommending favorable.action <br />on the tentative map of Redwood Terrace No. 4 Subdivision as revised on,an attached <br />sketch and providing for the realignment of Alabama Street and continue it through <br />to Louisiana Street, and installation of traffic island -at the intersection of <br />Massachusetts and Connecticut Avenues. Councilman Britschgi moved, seconded by <br />Councilman McNulty, acceptance of the recommendation of the Planning Commission. <br />Motion passed unanimously. <br />Communication was received from the California State Disaster Council addressed to the <br />Mayor in regard to establishing an "Accredited Disaster Council". Mayor Hilton <br />appointed Councilman Granger, City Manager Blom and Police Judge Thorpe to study <br />the communication and report back to the Council. <br />Communication was received from Edmund - Coiffeur, 706 E1 Camino Real, protesting the <br />one hour parking zone in front of his place of business and requesting a two hour, <br />zone. <br />
