r -
r
I hereby approve the foregoing resolution this
20th day of January, 1947.
W. W. HILTON
Mayor of the City of Redwood City
Councilman Granger moved, seconded by Councilman McNulty, that the request of
Edmund -Coiffeur be denied inasmuch as the change would not be in conformity with
other business districts of a like nature. Motion passed with Councilmen
Armstrong and Britschgi in the negative.
Communication was received from John J. Brophy, Auditor -Assessor, requesting cancel-
lation of current tax bills No: 742b and 742bA because the property was assessed
in error. The property was deeded to the State of California, Division of High-
ways, September 28, 1945, and was thus exempt from the 194b-47 tax. Councilman
Armstrong moved, seconded by Councilman McNulty, that the concellation of taxes as
requested be made because the assessment was made in error. Under.the question,
City attorney MdCaxt y asked if this property was deeded or sold to the State
because of a veteran's loan and was advised by Mr. Brophy that it was for the
purpose of a freeway. Motion passed unanimously.
Communication was received from the Planning Commission recommending the rezoning of
all of Blocks 2 and 3 and those portions of Blocks 4, 5, 13 and 14 of New High
School Acres on the northerly side of the southerly line of the Hetch Hetchy
right, -of -way. City Attorney McCarthy explained that there had been a very thor-
ough discussion of this matter before the Planning Commission and that Hahn and
Campbell, Master Planners, had recommended that in the interest of good planning
the division of zoning be in the middle of the block rather than in the middle
s
of the street. Numerous objections had been heard from property owners on the
southerly side of the Hetch Hetchy line in regard to the proposed rezoning. The
i
matter of rezoning this area had been presented by petition of residents of
Block 4, New High School Acres and the Planning Commission had initiated proceed -
Ings to rezone the balance of the area. Attorney James O'Keefe spoke at great
length..protesting the rezoning as recommended by the Planning Commission, his
contention being that it was not good planning and that the majority of protests
had been removed and that, therefore, the entire blocks 4 and 5 should be included
j in the rezoning. Attorney Millington appeared and requested that the recommen-
dation of the Planning Commission be accepted. After considerable discussion
by both attorneys and members of the audience, Councilman Britschgi moved, second-
ed by Councilman Armstrong, that the area including all of Blocks 2, 3, 4, 5, b,
13 and 14, New High,4School Acres be included in the first residential district
1
in their entirety. Motion passed unanimously.
E Councilman Armstrong moved, seconded by Councilman Britschgi, that the Council
modify its previous instructions to the Building Inspector to impose restrictions
I! only on the blocks mentioned in the area to be rezoned in New High School Acres.
Motion passed unanimously.
Gene DeWree appeared before the Council and expressed the thanks of the Teen -Alters for
their assistance in procuring the building for the Teen -Age Center and extended
an invitation to the opening which is to be Friday, January 24th.
A Mr. Kleir appeared in behalf of Joaquin Sablan against whose living quarters an abate-
ment notice had been posted. He advised the Council that friends of Mr. Sablan
Y
