That fire hydrants be installed and connected to the approval of the Fire
Chief..
City Engineer Jain explained he had gone over the map with subdivider and that these
conditions would be met before map was signed. Councilman Morgan moved adoption of
tentative mapn, seconded by Councilman Holmquist, subject to conditions as noted.
Motion carried.
CITY ENGINEER JAIN AGAIN BROUGHT UP THE MATTER OF THE WATER SYSTEM IN THE SOUTH KENSING-
TON SQUARE AREA. He was of the opinion that water lines should be installed at the
time other improvements are made rather than tear out the streets at a later date
to put in water mains. He further explained.that he had worked out a program of
extension of water mains for the future.and stated that he would like to go over the
program of the improvements with the Council at a time convenient to them. The
South Kensington area was included in this overall plan. After discussion Council-
man Granger moved, seconded by Councilman Holmquist, that the City Engineer include
water mains in his over-all plans and specifications for the area with the under-
standing that they could be deleted if necessary.
CITY ENGINEER JAIN DISCUSSED THE MATTER OF PAVING PERRY STREET PARKING LOT TO PREPARE
SAME FOR THE INSTALLATION OF METERS. It was explained that the owners of the laun-
dry had requested a right-of-way for installation of 51 sidewalk along the side of
the building. City Attorney Currie explained that when the Parking Lot Committee con-
tacted him for his share of a part of the expense, the matter of allowing the 5'
sidewalk would be made a condition of his paying into the fund. City Engineer Jain
explained that if this sidewalk was to be allowed it should be put in prior to the
paving of the lot. On motion of Councilman Granger, seconded by Councilman Morgan,
owner of property in question, Mr. H. W. Treichel, would be asked to.appear before
-the Council at the meeting of September 7th. Motion carried.
CITY MANAGER ROLISON REPORTED THAT PILE DRIVER IN THE VICINITY OF THE YACHT HARBOR WOULD
DRIVE 7 untreated piles for approximately $500. City Engineer Jain explained that
If piling were treated it would last considerably longer. However, they would
cost considerably more money and inasmuch as the Yacht Harbor would possibly be
moved within the next two to four yegrs it was thought the untreated piles would be
satisfactory. Ori motion of Councilman Swift, seconded by Councilman Morgan, City
Manager Rolison was also authorized to expend the sum of 0500 at the Yacht Harbor
for the driving of piles. Motion carried.
COUNCILMAN MORGAN STATED THAT IN HIS OPINION THE PUBLIC SHOULD BE INFORMED BY NEWSPAPER
