S.Dodge <br />City Clerk <br />Minutes of Adjourned Meeting <br />Redwood City Council <br />May 31, 1949, 8:00 PM <br />ON ROLL CALL the following were present: Councilmen Carl A.Britschgt, Floyd D. Granger, H. E. Hblmquist, <br />Mayor Warder and City Clerk R.S-. Dodge. Also present were City Manager E. A. Rolison, City En- <br />gineer Glenn M.Jain, Administrative Assistant Richard D. Miller and Police Chief C. L.Collins. <br />Councilmen Morgan, Spillers and Swift noted absent. <br />MAYOR WERDER STATED THE PURPOSE OF ADJOURNED MEETING WAS FOR PRESENTATION OF THE PROPOSED BUDGET, <br />FISCAL YEAR 1949-50. <br />BEFORE CONSIDERING BUDGET the Clerk was directed to read communications. <br />PROPOSED SALE OF SURPLUS BAND INSTRUMENTS. Letter was received from Sherman Clay & Company offering <br />$150 for band instruments stored in basement of City Hall. Communication also received from <br />Robert Garcia offering to purchase sousaphone requesting that he might be allowed to borrow same <br />temporarily with the understanding that it would be returned on request and attaching a certified <br />check for $100 as a -guaranty. After general discussion Councilman Granger moved that instrument be <br />laaned to Mr. Garcia on a license for the sum of $1.00 with the understanding that same be returned <br />on or before July 1st, bids on the entire lot of instruments will be advertised to be opened the <br />first meeting in July. Motion seconded by Councilman Britschgi and carried. <br />SIGN OF SEQUOIA LAUNDRY BUILDING, PERRY PARKING LOT. On motion of Councilman Holmquist, seconded by <br />Councilman,Britschgi, proper authorities authorized to requesypermission of owner of building to <br />paint out sign now appearing. Motion carried. <br />COMMUNICATION FROM AUDITOR BROPHY REQUESTING AUTHORITY TO MAKE PROGRESS PAYMENT TO FRED J. EARLY FROM <br />GENERAL FUND pending sale of Sewer Bonds authorized on motion of Councilman Holmquist, seconded <br />by Councilman Britschgi and carried. <br />STUDY OF TIDE CONTROL, REDWOOD CREEK. Communication from Hunting and Adamson in which they agreed <br />to make certain studies of tide control and estimates for flood gates for the sum of $600 was <br />read. City Manager stated that in the opinion of himself and City Engineer this amount appeared <br />to be reasonable. On motion of Councilman Britschgi, seconded by Councilman Holmquist, City <br />Manager was authorized to enter into contract with this firm for the sum of $600, amount to be <br />paid from the$1,000 set up orgkinally for this ,purpose. Motion carried. <br />PROGRESS LUMBER C014PANY LETTER REQUESTING COMMITMENT FROM THE CITY STATING THAT IT WOULD BE THE POLICY <br />OF THE REDWOOD CITY FIRE DEPARTMENT TO RESPOND TO FIRE CALLS COMING FROM THEM. After discussion <br />Councilman,Granger moved, seconded by Councilman Holmquist, that application be denied, Clerk to <br />so advise applicant that City would be willing to consider application for annexation; also to <br />point out that several applications had been received from firms adjacent to the City which <br />had likewise been denied. <br />FIRE CHIEF REPORT ON SELF -SERVE GASOLINE STATIONS. FireChj!C Lodi reported that subject of control <br />or to prohibit self -serve gas stations had been„ debated at a recent National Fire Protection <br />Association Conference with no success. Subject had been3eferred back to the committee for <br />further study. Councilman Britschgi moved, seconded by Councilman Holmquist,, that the matter <br />of proposed ordinance controlling the local situation be tabled for further report by Fire <br />Chief and that the special committee appointed by the Mayor be so notified. <br />RECREATION AREA HIGH SCHOOL GROUNDS, OFF EL CAMINO REAL. Parks and Recreation Commission recommended <br />discontinuance of upkeep on the area belonging to the Sequoia High School. Councilman Holmquist <br />was of the opinion this area should be kept up and Councilman Granger suggested publicizing the <br />area so that same might be used by more of our citizens. City Manager advised that he had dis- <br />cussed this question with the school authorities but had not heard from them definitely as yet. <br />On motion of Councilman Britschgi, seconded by Councilman Holmquist, City Clerk was directed to <br />refer matter back to Park and Recreation Commission for further reasons. <br />PROPOSED SUMMER RECREATION PROGRAM. Parks and Recreation Commission requested an early budget hearing <br />to consider an additional request for playground leadership for the coming fiscal year stating <br />that inasmuch as school was closed June 10th it will be necessary to hire plakground leaders <br />during the next few days if we are to carry out summer program. It was decided that the com- <br />mission hearing would be held Thursday, June 2nd. <br />P A R X..AN.D.. RECREATION COMMISSION REQUEST FOR ADDITIONAL. AMOUNT OF $1550 in the 1949-50 budget to <br />be used for painting and preservation of the exterior of the Community Center Building. This <br />item will be also considered at the June 2nd budget hearing. <br />PROPOSED INCREASE IN BERTH RENTAL YACHT HARBOR. Parks and Recreation Commission recommend increase in <br />berth rentals. City Manager suggested possibility of increasing rentals to non-residents of the <br />City. It was explained that the revenues collected were paid into the general fund but were taken <br />into consideration when figuring the amount to be -spent at the Yacht Harbor. Motion of Council- <br />man Granger, seconded by Councilman Britschgi, that the matter -be referred back to the Park and <br />Recreation Commissimn, also to the Redwood City -Yacht Club for their further consideration and <br />recommen d.ation. <br />TEEN-AGE CENTER BILLS TO BE PAID FROM SPECIAL RECREATIONFUND.
