City Engineer's report was read stating that approximately 100 <br />acres drained direcW upon was proposed to be improved. Preliminary estimates by Frost & Brian, <br />Consulting Engineers and City Engineer's office indicate thatpumpidg'plant would be the only <br />solution for getting this itorm water across the Bayshore Highway d; a cost of $259000 to $30,000. <br />It was believed that Broadway No 3 area should not be assessed for more than a portion of total <br />cost as entire business area of the City east of Redwood Creek and north of S. P.Railroad <br />drained on this area: To complete plans it would be necessary for City Council to determine <br />whether bond monies or other funds could be contributed to this project and whether pumping <br />plant should be provided. CityEngineer further recommended that a meeting should be arranged <br />- immediately with Consulting Engineers to work out problem and establish boundaries of assessment <br />district, as plans could not proceed further without this information. Mayor Warder set meeting <br />date for Monday, July 11th at'8t00 PM it being agreeable with council members, Administrative <br />Assistant to notify members of the meeting. <br />TAFT IMPROVEMENT CLUB SUBMITTED REQUESTFOR STREET LIGHTS IN FRIENDLY ACRES, as they recently circulated <br />a petition to r4move this area from Menlo Park Lighting District. It was suggested that light <br />fixtures be affixed to already existing poles. City could not spend money until Friendly Acres <br />and Kensington Square were out of the County District. Friendly Acres petitions were filed with <br />Board of Supervisors, but the petitionsfrom Kensington Square had not been returned. Friendly <br />Acres should be in the Redwood City District by the next regular Council meeting. Councilman <br />Holmquist moved that the letter should be answered explaining the status of Friendly Acres <br />street lighting and necessary steps to be taken, Fire Chief Lodi to make recommendation, <br />seconded by Councilman Granger and carried. <br />REQUEST FOR USE OF HETCH HETCHY PROPERTY IN REDWOOD CITY AS C HILDREN's.PLAYGROUND. Letter from A. 0. <br />OLSON, Manager & Chief Engineer, City & County of San -Francisco, Public Utilities, 425 Mason <br />Street, San Francisco 1, enclosed sketch map and copy of Bauman letter. Bauman Bros, 450 <br />Redwood Avenue offered to level this lot gratis to the right-of-way on Redwood Avenue so the <br />children could use it as a baseball field and playground. The letter from Mr. Olson was sent <br />for the approval of the City Council and if agreeable suggested that the City Council x9quest <br />the issuance of a revocable permit covering such use. As there was a question of supervision, <br />etc., Councilman Spillers moved this be referred to the Recreation Commission for study and <br />recommendation, seconded by Councilman Morgan and carried. <br />ACCEPTANCE OF DEED FOR SEWER EASEMENT, KENSINGTON SQUARE, JOHN J. JANSSEN. Councilman Granger moved <br />that City Clerk be authorized to accept deed, -seconded by CouncilmanSpillers, and carried. <br />L. C. SMITH FILED CLAIM FOR $15,972.83 for additional cost of labor and 'material which according to <br />his claim resulted. from the City?:s delaying the project from July 90,1948 to Aprl 1 29, 1949. <br />Councilman Morgan moved claim be denied, seconded by Councilman Swift and carried. <br />MR.
