RUSSELL J. VARSI, 2455 El Camino Real, Suite 2, San Mateo, requested permission to 245
connect a temporary line to Stambaugh Street main sewer, had discussed this with City
Engineer Jain and was willing to deposit x;400 cash escrow as guarantee until a sewer
district was established and to install temporary line at his own expense. After
discussion it was moved by Councilman Holmquist, seconded by Councilman Spillers that
City Attorney Curried prepare an agreement, motion carried. A petition had been
circulated for improvements but signatures were not obtained and it had been dropped.
As temporary permit for one was considered fair for all, City Clerk Dodge was instruc-
ted to write to Mr. DeBenedetti who circulated the petition that a temporary permit
had been granted for sewer connection subject to project coming up for"sewers, etc.
and that the City would welcome petition just for sewers on motion of Councilman
Granger, seconded by Councilman Holmquist and carried.
ABATEMENT OF THE FOLLOWING PROPERTIES WAS RECOMMENDED BY THE BUILDING, AND FIRE DEPARTMENTS:
116 Pine Street, Joe Borra, owner, 2 -story building on rear of lot.
908 Bradford St., Edward Genochio, et al o H.B. The committee visited the pools
at Salinas and Livermore. The Livermore pool was 42 x 821 6" which cost was $60,000
and the other pool at Salinas 50 x 100 cost 0175,000. He asked City Attorney Currie
if a portion of funds could be used for the swimming pool from the Community Park
fund and City Attorney Currie thought they could if expended in that area. Council-
man Spillers noted that 442,000 was available and that $18,000 additional transferred
to the swimming pool would be sufficient to cover the project. Councilman Holmquist
moved that City Manager Rolison contact the architect at Livermore for plans and
specifications to be prepared by the City Engineer along lines suggested by the
committee and preliminary figures submitted, seconded by Councilman Granger, and
carried.
ROBERT L. MASTERS, 948 - 5th Avenue, appeared in regard to heavy trucks and the speed of
same on 5th Avenue, between Bayshore and Bay Road. On discussion it was found the
City had no control over streets. A committee had been suggested at one time to
establish truck routes but nothing had been done. The speed limit'could'be enforced
and Councilman Spillers suggested 15 mile limit to slow trucks down. The problem
was referred to the Traffic Fact Finding Committee to report back at the first
meeting in August.
MR. NORMAN MENEFEE APPEARED IN BEHALF OF MR. PETER SORENSEN and declared he was adversely
affected by publicity relative to the testing of sewage lines. Letters were read
from Mr. Sorensen stating his case and a letter from Frost & Brian as to the require-
ments of specifications and that the job was not acceptable in their opinion. Men
were at the meeting to testify and explain the work done for the City but inasmuch
as representatives of Frost & Brian were not there it was proposed to meet at an
adjourned meeting July 25th with the engineers in charge of the project.
